I agree, this is a logical result of the current “Starve the Beast/ Shrink the Government” direction in America. For an example of what it looks like when businesses are allowed to act solely in their best interests we need only to look at the 1920’s...
Actually, I think this is a case of too little government, rather than too much government. More funding, coupled with more transparency and a greater sense of independence without fear of congressional meddling, seems like it would go a long way.
