The local rental place here turned down my dad (a 30 year commercial driver with a Class A license and clean driving record) for a car trailer because his 1989 F-150 4x4 has a bumper hitch, even though hes rented car trailers there before with the exact same truck and hitch. So we come back with his 2004 Jeep Grand

But back then they still did have the M635CSi in addition to the regular 635i and M6...

Still waiting for a Thunderbird Turbo Coupe and/or preferably a 1989 Super Coupe...

Awesome.

I dont care whether they call it a coupe or not, but aren't more people pretty miffed that they called it a 6 series? A six series has two doors, dammit!

Or an MN12...

What about Vietnam and 2142?

I was at the race and I didnt know it happened. I would have noticed a street car being raped for parts, that was like 5 pit stalls over.

Depends. My 1989 Thunderbird is the way you mention, my dad's 1963 Thunderbird and my 1989 F-150 has separate door and ignition keys.

Ford was the same way from the 60s until the 90s. :)

Only one generation of Thunderbird though, needs more Turbo Coupe, Super Coupe, and maybe a 91 or a 96 Sport...

I dunno, I kind of like it. It actually gives a crapton of rear headroom, an advantage over the Thunderbird... (I say this as a 1989 Thunderbird owner)

The Mercury Cougar XR-7 was also a deserving vehicle, it actually had slightly better suspension tuning than the Thunderbird SC but sold in much lower volumes. It probably would have sold more if it would have won COTY over the SC. Dodge Sprit and Plymouth Acclaim were better than the earlier K sedans, did they have

I miss when the Motor Trend Car of the Year award used to come from engineering and performance rather than beige...

Well they had the 280/300ZX as a cooler car compared to their lesser performance coupes (180/240/200SX)...

I thought it was because he had only one hubcap after three got stolen...

Agreed, my favorite Cougar ever made, and my favorite Mercury commercial too. I'd rather have a mint 89/90 XR-7 than a 60s Cougar. :)

I have to say the 1989-1995 Ford Thunderbird SC, most people dont know what they are. Even some Jalopnik Editors wrongly think they were FWD when they were really a sophisticated RWD American grand tourer with a 6.x 0-60 time and impressive ('88) Fiero like handling from the independent rear suspension and short long

Its RWD with a fully Independant Multi Link SLA setup all around...
