From someone who just picked up the game a few weeks ago when I finally got my hands on a Series X, my recommendation is just play it. The negativity around this game is way over hyped.

You sound like the kind of tough-talkin’ person I want to project myself to be, how can I vote for you?
That was my first thought too. Sounds conceptually exactly the same, only with a few added layers of depth and detail. Hopefully that depth and detail means it’ll keep my attention longer...
Sorry to hear about your mom. For my dad it was March 2018 for the diagnosis, and he made it to July. My guess is that the biggest difference for Alex is in getting the diagnosis early, and that’s where being able to afford the best doctors in the country/world can really make the difference. I know my dad was…
I hope you’re younger than I am. I feel the same way as you, but I don’t expect them to complete the full “series” (or whatever it will be called) in the next 10 years. The fact that they said at E3 last year that they have no roadmap for the rest of the episodes gives me a lot of concern, especially if every part of…
It’s stupid to tie meaning to online rankings and lists, but this was the first game in a while that had me disappointed when it wasn’t higher on more “Best of” lists at the end of the year.
Crab cakes are one of my favorite foods in the world, and I may never eat one again after seeing that header image.
It’s not even that I’m anti-episodic. It looks like they’re adding enough to justify making it a trilogy, or quadrilogy (is that a thing?), or whatever.
That’s a good point I hadn’t thought about, but you’re still talking about the original release of the movie and not a remake, so it’s still not a fair comparison to this.
That makes even less sense than your first reply. I’ve already spent more time replying to you than you deserve, so keep on keeping on, freind!
Did you mean to send this reply to me, because it doesn’t make sense? The whole issue I have is that I fully understand what “part 1" means, but Square Enix refuse to call this “part 1".
Honestly, I haven’t even considered how the additional episodes will work. I’m still only about 50% convinced there will even be further episodes. The way they keep talking about how much content is in this first one, and how it’s “a full game by itself”, I wouldn’t be surprised if this is all we end up getting.
No, I never played the .hack games. I don’t generally have a problem with paying full price for individual games or series.
SE can state whatever they want. A story that ends at Midgar is in no way a remake of FFVII, it’s literally only a part of the story. It can have as much extra content as The Witcher 3, but it’s still not a complete remake of FFVII.
My expectations for the “FF7 Remake” were already low when they announced it would be episodic, but they had no roadmap beyond Epidose 1.
I happened to catch this one live last week, and I was glued to the screen the whole time. Especially the first few stages where he hasn’t taken a death yet.
So you’re saying the boys view you as more fragile, less skilled, and unable to take care of yourself?
Great article, Maddy. Informative, engaging, and well-written.
I didn’t even mean to imply that you’re necessarily stuck. I didn’t really get stuck either per se, but I’m 100% sure I would have given up at some point if I tried to beat it without any help. There are a couple of “stand on this specific teleporter at the exact right time” moments I doubt I would’ve solved on my own.
