Picking the best individual episodes of TV, especially in the last 25 years, seems like such an odd task. So much of the good TV now is serialized so that taking one episode out of the context of the entire show is distorting. This is not like the days of Seinfeld, Cheers, Friends, etc. where episodes could exist in a…
I didn’t expect a Dead Kennedys reference while looking at AVClub today, but that was a nice little surprise at the beginning of a long weekend.
I always got the sense that Ridiculousness was background noise for the most part. Like, no one (well, maybe a few people, but virtually no one) tunes in for the latest episode of the show. Instead it’s on in the background while doing dishes, or people stay with it for a bit while flipping through channels and…
The situation recalls Alec Baldwin’s advice to Matt Damon in the Departed about getting married. I won’t list it here, because it has a slur, but I can easily see someone in the gqp reciting it verbatim to Scott at some point.
Yeah, to be clear I don’t blame Wright for this at all. I agree with the article - lack of screen time, a reduced character, etc. Also, sometimes good actors just can’t convey a sense of closeness for whatever reason and that happened here.
This tracks from what I remember from the books, that Ginny was more prominent without being anything close to a main character. Her ending up with Harry was probably conceived as a clean way to provide familial bonds between the main three, even though I think Rowling stated after the fact that Harry and Hermione…
I remember disliking that movie immensely, which is odd because I don’t remember the movie at all.
I’d see a third one. The first two were dumb as hell, but the chemistry and energy were high enough that they were both fun times. I thought Diaz and Liu retired from acting and Barrymore is doing a talk show so I doubt it would come together, but sure.
FWIW, her showing up with an empty notebook because she was so obviously going to get confirmed by a bunch of death cult psychos didn’t help. “I’m such a shoe-in, who even gives a fuck about these questions?” certainly did not give an “impression” of demonstrating that you are up to the task.
Off the top of my head, the only instance I can recall of looking forward to seeing something a trailer had which the movie did not was the TIE Fighter shot in Rogue One. It did not affect my desire to watch the movie, I just thought it would have been cool. Certainly nowhere near mad enough to sue.
I am legitimately curious how BoSaS is going to do. I enjoyed Hunger Games (books and movies) for what they were when they came out but the dystopian teen drama moment seems to have passed on.
On one hand, I think Ayer might be sort of right. DC was (maybe still is) so reactionary to Marvel that they saw the success of Deadpool and GotG in particular and careened into “let’s do that!” with Suicide Squad. Something bright and humorous but also with a dark edge, especially in the case of Deadpool (though not…
This is kind of where I am at. I don’t care for Ed Sheeran or Starbucks, but this complaint is kind of a stretch. I doubt his team thought much of it beyond “Starbucks is a big company with a popular autumnal seasonal coffee, that dovetails with the album name, let’s have him work a shift”.
This isn’t a shot at Americans, but mayo is one of the most hated foods? I find that... questionable since mayo is on almost every kind of sandwich and in tons of dips/spreads.
He absolutely practiced that look in the mirror to look tough and intimidating. But the only thing tough and intimidating about it is the shit he is concentrating on squeezing out.
1. Big Fish and Mars Attacks! are both a bit lower than I would have imagined.
I’ve always been fascinated by people who go to schools like these. Especially in 2023, do they see shit on the internet and go “nah, LU seems my speed”? Is it because of the households they were raised in?
We weren’t thrilled with either finale (though I liked them well enough), but my partner and I are sad that those shows are over. We caught up to S4 and S7 live by binging them on streamers and really had a great time with both.
I have mixed feelings about this finale. I think it was a nice emotional send-off and I will certainly miss the insanity of the show. But at the same time, S7 always seemed like an alternate universe/fanfic/detour from the main story, so the finale based on *that* Riverdale rang somewhat hollow. I did like how we got…
