I’ve watched way too much cable news lately(but really for the last 5 years in general) and the arrest this morning was one of the most harrowing things I’ve ever watched on television.

I saw it this morning, and I can’t even really describe the feeling in my stomach when I saw the arrest. It was close to dread, but mixed with a whole lot of other things, none of them good. I really thought we might be preparing witnessing a state execution.

Just wanted to add my thanks to you and everyone at The Root for the work you do putting words to feelings even the most articulate sometimes cannot.

My understanding is that the 👍 emoji is a device to politely avoid the “who gets the last word” problem. It doesn’t convey any meaning other than, “I’m not gonna be offended if this thread ends here.” But it’s not as definitive as “I’m done talking with you.” The old, “Gotta go ...” is still the best way to sign off…

I use periods.  I won’t ever stop.

Just many of us see a thumbs up as a naturally passive-aggressive reaction. Like “okay, whatever you say dumbass”

I realise I’m over 40, but what’s with the thumbs up emoji? Something sexual or something racist or something else?
