As far as the art direction goes, I’d probably agree with you.

I feel Windwaker is terribly overrated on that front.

Rather than an ill-advised attempt at photorealism—which, in the era of gaming’s technical arms race, would’ve doomed it to a brief half-life—

Name a more iconic duo than SEGA and sadistic, game-crippling rushed schedules. Extra iconic rushing it out for an anniversary

Man, I couldn’t disagree more. You’re right that it lacks polish, but it’s still a stone-cold classic; it’s not like it plays any differently from 6 or 9 either.

How is Diablo Immortal different from Marvel Future Revolution?

If you don’t want to spend money on it...don’t and move on to something else.

Every positively-spun article Kotaku writers have written about this game have felt like an addict defensively scrambling to justify their actions. The lack of self-awareness is... not something I expected. All of them are missing the forest for the trees.

This. The fear that predatory monetisation practices will take over the market isn’t unwarranted, because the big publishers have proven time and again that they will push as far as they can, and only pushback will stop them.

I think this whole take comes off as defensive for no reason. I don’t believe this is a ‘mobile gamer vs traditional gamer’ discussion- that seems like a distraction from the actual issue.

We SHOULD be against any game that expects you to effectively gamble and pushes it on you so hard. Half of your stance is just

The intended audience doesn’t change that these games are predatory. You make it sound like criticism regarding the exploitation of whales is somehow platform dependent.

I don’t care how rarely I get phased in with other players, I don’t want to see anyone EVER. I don’t even want a game like Diablo to be played online at all. It’s just a contrived antipiracy measure anyhow.

The Necromancer was my favorite class in Diablo 2, the non-Civilization game I probably have the most hours in over my lifetime.  But I bounced pretty hard off of Diablo 3, and with ActiBlizz being a truly execrable company I’m not sure if I’m even interested in Diablo 4.  I think I’ll skip it entirely if they try to

offering an adventure unlike anything Diablo players have experienced before.

Always-online for single player games remains to this day a Dumb Thing.

It’s not exactly free. It’s the first Diablo that will cost you your soul. I mean, wasn’t Activision-Blizzard one of the most awful companies just a few articles ago?

Some of these comments show exactly what’s wrong with this type of predatory design. People justify spending money on it because the game “earned” it in some way. But as they play more and more, the game will continue to ask for more and more, and eventually they’ve spent more than they would’ve been willing to pay

The fuck is this advertisement? It’s arguably one of the most exploitive and overpriced f2p games in history. Bye Kotaku. I'm done with this corpse of a website.

BAD TAKES, GET YER BAD TAKES HERE! TWO FOR THE PRICE OF ONE!

Diablo Immortal Is Far Too Good To Be Free”

Bullshit. Any game this has to push micro transactions this hard is a MAJOR red flag.

The moment this game was announced, there was feedback. Majority negative but regardless any feedback is helpful.

What did they do with this feedback, they decided to nickel and dime their
