You can also thank director Joe Johnston for that (as well as the writers.) As “The Rocketeer” proved, he has a real feel/respect for Olde Schoole Golden Age heroes and what drives them--and you need that to make someone like Cap convincing and to show how he has to adapt. 

And oddly enough the DC TV universe is way better than the Marvel TV universe.
