The first two seasons are great television, most definitely worth watching. The season 2 finale may be my favourite season finale of any show. After that, season 3 was a let-down, and I gave up halfway through season 4.

Yeah, in my opinion, the pilot, despite some awkwardness, is one of the best episodes of the first season (along with Jack-tor, Tracy Does Conan, The Rural Juror, and Cleveland).

I more or less agree with you - I don't like the shift in tone (toward more over-the-top) that starts pervading the series here, but still think the show produced several excellent episodes after this point.

In general, I would actually say that his screenwriting talent is not very consistent (Desperation is one of his best books, and the tv version he wrote for it is terrible), but he did a great job with "Storm".
