I remember complaints about Apu from when he first showed up. It wasn’t that it was okay back then to make fun of people with accents - but the people who were hurt by it just weren’t considered important enough to matter. That’s pretty much the definition of racism.

I love the Simpsons but I still have to say that the racism surrounding Apu was always there, it’s just that nowadays we’re finally calling this type of stuff out more. You don’t get a free pass just because it’s from a time that people cared less.

SC out, Puerto Rico in. Git’er done!

Is she:

*heavy sigh*

Because they’re trained not too. They are trained that their lives are more important than anyone else’s and when in doubt, shoot first.

I’m sorry, but this just makes me hate and pity Aubrey O’Day, whoever the fuck she is. She spread ‘em for a TRUMP. A TRUMP.

I don’t know who Aubrey O’Day is. I don’t know who (possibly *what*) Danity Kane is. I’m not gonna look it up. I’m just going to revel in my ignorance.

I think one of the foundational rules of American society is that if you have a criticism of Fred Rogers, you are automatically found to be holding the wrong position.

That moral bank went through a recession, got a bailout, and then burned up all the assets.

Punchable either way though.

REALLY well put, Michael. Point 3 is something I’ve been thinking a lot about in this context: like, unless you’re exclusively making bluegrass music, you owe a huge amount of credit to black artists. That’s a damn FACT. So where does cultural appropriation start and stop?

Sledgehammers are called a “Florida Hello” down there.

I just can’t believe this is happening in ...oh. Florida. Nevermind.

I have had nowhere NEAR enough weed tonight to deal with that commentary.

A mediocre white man who failed upwards wants to talk about the “crisis” facing men...

We need the name, employer & address of this colonizer.

Right? He’s been Black all his life. This never occurred to him?

These are the same people that shout “MENTAL HEALTH” to avoid talking about guns, while actively and proudly working to dismantle health care legislation that makes mental health care easier to access.

The best comment ever said on the subject was Donald himself, on the Nerdist podcast. “If you hear about a kid living with his aunt, whose parents died and uncle was killed in a robbery, what color do you think his skin is?”
