Having worked at one of the high end brands you listed, I can tell you that 90% of all headunits are subbed out now-a-days. The very very high end units at each brand MAY still be made in house, but most are spec’d (we want this much power, this much distortion is ok, the front panel should look like this, etc). Sad

It likely struck the cable line which probably has no surge protection on it. I had this happen last year, took out cable modem, my cable TV to IP converter (HD Homerun) then went through my network wires and took out a NIC in a PC, a security DVR nic, rapsberry PI, my router/ap and a switch or two. I now have fiber

“ When droves of people refuse your best effort as a free gift, it’s time to face the music.”

Good way yes, best way, meh. When I worked for a steel manufacturer, we dumped all our hard drives into the scrap bucket, which were then dropped into the electric arc furnace. The HD’s then became part of the 3000 degree liquid steel that later turned into a nice new steel coil.... No way in hell is anyone recovering

Pretty bummed, heavy prime user, but I could only find 2 buttons of stuff that I use that were cheaper/close enough to price to justify not buying locally. In the end for just those 2 items it’ll be easier to just keep them on the normal Alexa shopping list... The rest were either:

I’m damn sure that’s R2-D2 hiding on the right side of that engine bay.... Just sayin....

My grandpa did that with WW2, he passed a few years ago and took it all with him which I guess I half regret him never telling, but then also half understand that its probably the only way he coped. He was D-Day +1 @ Omaha beach..... Helluuva man.

Oddly enough this popped up locally today:

Bigger problem is that no one holds the shifter like that, all lights get hidden because most people put their whole hand over it like it’s designed for vs sissy grasping it like their video shows :-P It’s as if they are afraid they’ll break it or something...

Sigh.... for the 15th time I watched it and I drove it, clearly you didn’t since you said its the same as your car.... Look, its “digital” there is little feedback, and the feeling from ALL the way up, and “not quite there” is little, if any.... They also put the indicators on the shifter in a spot where they are

I drove the car and commented that it wasn’t safe before the recall came out. You can glance at your A6 and see that its in park, even with the car off. You can’t do that in the Jeep. The shifter sits in the same spot no matter what... I drove the thing as a rental as did my CEO, the shifter was a PITA. I kept ramming

You have actual indents, and the indicators are off to the side not covered by the palm of your hand....

They aren’t really there. Did you watch the video? Your A6 is completely different. This shifter you press up into park, and it comes back to the middle position, NOT like your A6...

The idiot bell is what caught me... you don’t hold the shifter like they show in the video, your hand covers the lights, I had a rental with one, I didn’t even know it was lighted! Problem 2 was I’m assuming that I’d shift up and think I had it, shut off the ignition then all the indicator lights were off....

Exactly.... dude in the other thread said it was the drivers fault for not reading the manual (and watching the video) lol....

I didn’t choose to buy that car though, I rented it. As many others will. And again, remember service personnel (not dealers but independents, tint shops, car stereo places etc). They didn’t buy the dumb design and they aren’t going to read the manual to figure it out.... To place the blame on the people isn’t right.

If you make a product capable of killing someone that doesn’t clearly inform you that it’s in a mode that can kill you yes it’s your fault. If these didn’t have keyless start systems then you wouldn’t be able to remove the keys from the ignition if not in park. That is gone in this and many other cars. So if that

I rented one of these at the first of the year, both myself and our CEO that drove it had issues with the shifter, I was just never confident I had it in park nor was he. I told my wife about it and she laughed. Then a few months later the recall came out....

I believe it depends on the car, I’ve seen articles where Jeep and a Corvette have had their ABS hacked....

You realize those hydraulic brakes do go through electronic controls, ABS, that can be hacked and messed with right? I get where you are going but there is pretty much nothing any more that doesn’t have some sensor involved... And don’t forget that I’m pretty sure that avoidance braking is next up on the mandatory
