If they could get the whole starting line up and some bench players for each team to play virtually against each other, I would definitely watch it.

That wasn’t the point. I’m sure they would have considered AI upscaling regardless, but no matter what you’re aiming for clearly you want to start with the best possible quality material. The AI upscale might have looked twice as good had they had the original video to upscale from.
