BREAKING: Kessler has been joined in the idea theft lawsuit by a new co-litigant, Literally The Entire 1980s.

Then why don’t you go hang out in quarantine with some measles patients? Put your money where your mouth is.

A White Flyer?

So am I the only person who watched the first season of Transparent, decided all of these people except Judith Light were awful human beings, and just gave up on the show? I didn’t see it as a fantastic bit of representation or that Maura was some sort of hero-I thought every main character was a selfish prick, there

I believe you just summed up Stanley Tucci’s entire career with that comment.

Oh Canadians servers get paid significantly better. They make the regular minimum wage (generally the same for all workers, depends on the province) ranging from $11.06-$15.00 (depends on the province) an hour plus tips. My understanding is in the US it’s a waaaayyy lower minimum wage for servers plus a tip, like

That’s generally what I do but on that particular instance I would be comfortable leaving $20. But I live in a city where servers make $15/hr before tips so I think they will be fine.

SERIOUSLY! 20% is easy to figure.

I used to wait tables and bar tend and didn’t have a lot of money to play with. But I still tipped well every time I went out to eat, because when you do the work you get it. You don’t go out thinking i have exactly $60 to spend on food, but nothing for tip. You go out thinking, I have $60 to spend including tip, and

Every person I know in the service industry tips far above 20% because they have a unique understanding of the difficulties of the job.

It’s interesting to me that their moral stance on this is “fuck over the underpaid server” vs “not give the evil underpaying corporate restaurant my money.

If you can’t afford to tip 20% then you can’t afford to eat out.

The corporation does not care what you think or if you tip. If you don’t want to tip, don’t go out to eat. You act like you care about the worker while you actively hurt them. That’s some fucked up shit right there.

Yeah, I do the same thing, then round up to make the total a whole number. So in your example, it’d be $20.02->$20.90 so that the total was $121.00, although I like round multiples so in most cases I’d probably round to $24.90 so that the total is $125, which is a nice pleasing total and also the cube of 5.

I guess to keep the math simple, I just move the decimal left one position and multiply by 2.

Nope, not crazy.

Agreed. It’s a travesty that America (and pretty much uniquely America) evolved to the point where customers are expected to pay the worker’s wages since employers are legally allowed to underpay them. It’s not a tip if it’s required. Why don’t you up your prices and just pay your employees a living wage directly?

It’s been 20% since about 1999.

But we currently inhabit the world where servers and other folks are not paid a decent wage, so...tip.

Thank you for this. I’m ashamed to admit that it’s never occurred to me to tip stadium vendors, despite usually being tip conscious (20% on takeout orders, etc.). From now on I’ll be less of a trash human in the rare instances when I find myself at a game or whatever.
