Vonn was an incredible racer, but as you pointed out she had to ski so close to disaster and take a volume approach (all 5 events) to accumulate as many podiums as she did. I don’t think Vonn could ski any other way and win as much as she did, but I do wonder if she had been more strategic about event selection if her

“She could have won everything,” Lindsey Vonn told reporters. “I’m a racer and I want to race in every single race that I possibly can. I respect her decision. It’s obviously her decision. But she has the potential and 100 percent the capability of getting a medal in all five disciplines. So I don’t personally

I think I’ve watched the one of her as the lady who is an intimidating older boss a half dozen times.  It is so perfect.

That provides such great context.... although I may feel differently when I’m explaining to a Doctor next weekend that I broke my everything trying to reach “sky-diving” speed on my twin-tips.

Unbelievable career. I think her criticism of Shiffrin over the last few days about sitting out certain races was a little bit off. I wonder if Vonn had taken a more tactical approach to what races she entered she might have avoided some of those injuries and actually broken Stenmark’s record.  Especially since

I’m definitely one of those pats fans that Drew is probably talking about. The Bledsoe / Kraft / Parcells / Uniform change era is when my generation (35-40) really started rooting for the Pats, and anyone who says otherwise is lying and definitely owned a NY Giants Starter Jacket.

Buddy, I don’t care what Tom Brady told that little kid at media day, we hate you right back.

for someone who was not planning on singing a duet for a crowd of thousands.

I’m not sure, what do you think?

Yeah I could see a booth review in the last two minutes of the half or game that would allow them to assess or reverse the less subjective penalties.

I’ve never seen them pick up a flag for that reason and plenty of plays get called back because of a penalty away from the ball.

THIS. I’m surprised so many people are talking about reviewing PI calls when the whole point is that there wasn’t a call to begin with. THAT to me is the can of worms, because if you make every play reviewable to the extent that you can add a penalty where there wasn’t a call on the field it will turn into a shit

Why use a picture of Billie Jean King speaking at a title IX event, instead of Dr. Sandler?

Not sure what you’re suggesting with this comment, but it is asinine imply that anyone who actually has celiac disease is being hysterical about avoiding gluten.

Shout-out to Bad Homburg - I lived on the other side of the Kurpark from you, but got there in 1995.

“New Year’s Resolutions” have become synonymous with unrealistic expectations and personal failure.

I sat down last night and read the first chapter of Frog and Toad Are Friends to my daughter. By Dec 31, our goal is to sit down and have her read it to me. This is the first year we’ve done resolutions for our oldest so I’m curious to see how it will pan out. We just did a couple of things, and tried to keep them

This. In theory I like the idea of a morning after child-care situation but as you point out it’s not practical from a cost standpoint and also I don’t think I could relax and sleep off a hangover knowing that someone was taking care of my kids for me because I’m too much of a dirtbag to rally.
