I think part of Betty looking dowdy or from another era is the weight issue. It's harder to wear trendy stuff when you're overweight, and I bet there weren't many plus-sized options back then.

You never saw him actually drunk on the show, but he apparently refused a breathalyzer after being pulled over for erratic driving, which results in an automatic "don't-pass-go" and he pleaded not guilty. He wasn't convicted or acquitted, though. There was an issue with the jury bringing in outside information on…
It's weird because those lines shift over time. For example, there was a time when Irish, Italian, and Spanish people were not considered white. Today, I know a lot of people who don't think Asians count as PoC because they're like "close enough" to white or "honorary white," I guess.
I think it also depends on what you mean by "people of color."
I can't speak to the wandering eye, but his DUI trial was chronicled by the show itself.

As a former fat person, I fall into the latter category (see a skinny bitch parading around, etc.). You're probably right.
I think you're right, she probably intended it to be a positive, encouraging thing. It just doesn't come off that way for a lot of people because the "What's your excuse?" line seems very confrontational. If you got something good out of it, then that's great, though. Go for it!
It definitely isn't optimal, but if he insists on going through with it, at least it acknowledges that the guy is self-aware enough to understand the situation.

Out of curiosity: how did she handle it?
Thank you. When I read that I just thought, "Ugh, now people are going to think that everybody with autism is like this jerk."
Ooh, I know these things! Thanks, school!

Yep, it's the statement that you'd look just like her if you weren't such a lazy-ass. Just not possible for a lot of people due to genetics. I'm tall, and I'd might as well ask short people what their excuse for not being tall is.
I had two great aunts who did that sort of thing for a living in an earlier time. Back when gas stoves first became common home appliances, the gas company in the area apparently incentivized their use by having public and in-home demonstrations about how to cook thriftily and healthily (by the standards of the…
Exactly. I could make some kind of poster that says "law degree" and "master's degree" and "speaks several foreign languages" with the same "What's your excuse?" tagline, and it would be equally stupid, because not everyone wants those things!
I wanted to draw an arrow by her crotch that says "camel toe," and an arrow by her head that says "bitch," but that would be petty.
Thanks for the information. I've heard that being sexually abused makes one more likely to sexually abuse others later on, but that's something I've never been able to wrap my mind around. Wouldn't it make you hate sexual abusers even more than the average person? There's some kind of psychological force there that…
