If we’re going to talk Volvo buttons let’s talk M46 shift knobs:

If you consider that “a lot” of buttons, don’t get a pre-touchscreen modern car. This is the view in my Volvo.

didn’t they say that focus groups preferred this over a more traditional design?  I’m assuming they give their focus groups meth before talking with them.  explains the add campaign anyway.

I forgot how stupid this interior was. Thank you (?) for reminding me.

I’m all about switching on the door panel, for what it’s worth. No mystery, no hunting. The buttons that control the functions of the door are on the door. What counterintuitive about that?

I see your one button and raise you “all of the buttons in the C8 Corvette.”

This was originally done to speed up racing starts where the drivers run to the car. By putting it on the left, all limbs were in use (ignition, shifter, clutch, and gas). By not having to use the right hand for two steps you cut down on the vital time to get going as quickly as possible.

Everyone here probably knows, but Saab’s center mounted ignition and window controls:

My 1983 Ford Escort (first car) had this too!  It was 2 months before I found the horn by accident.

Yay! You found the racism in it. Good for you! Now, screenshot it and send it to all your friend(s).

As an added bonus, they rearrange all the buttons every year or so, so as soon as you figure out where all the buttons are, they’ll change them up, and you get to look for them all over again!

Anybody remember these?

the 2020 Pacific’s has the transmission selector right next to the radio dial. they are the same shape just a different size. This was rental for me, so i wasnt super used to it, but twice i found myself holding the “shifter” about to crank the radio.

Anything with an Engine Start or ignition switch on the left has always seemed weird to me. Porsche comes to mind. I get why they do it, I still think its weird.

Does the glove box have a lock on it? This was likely done because of the convertible version so you could leave top down and have the extra security of storing items in the trunk with the button being locked away.

In my car, the horn is a button on the end of the turn signal stalk. Even better, the previous owner put an aftermarket steering wheel on it that has a horn button in the middle, that totally does nothing.

Now playing

I think all car controls should be in the center column. I don’t think it’s weird, but whatever.

I had a company send me a pair of nose cancelling headphones that are very commonly featured on this site. I actually bought the first pair on my own before they were featured. They were crap, and even at a low price point I reviewed them as basically “just buy good over there ear headphones and you’ll be better off”.

One common denominator seems to be that the fake reviewers get bored and lazy after a while - good fake reviews take too much work when you’re trying to shift the overall rating. So you get a lot of 2-3 line reviews that offer similarly worded vague praise.

Reply All had an episode about this exact thing. Even the “VERIFIED PURCHASER” badge can’t be trusted 100%, as companies/sellers hire people to positively review their items buy having them buy their item. They then reimburse the reviewer for the cost. Thereby giving them a verified badge.
