Nothing else has ever been quite like it. If they had managed to keep producing maps at a good clip (I’ll forever be sad the Jason X map and gamemode got pulled before it was finished because of the legal issues) and every now and then a new new game mode, it would have had a great lifespan.

This game was a blast. At least when it first came out, then it became harder and harder to find matches and some people started abusing glitches and stuff.

Why would you cheat online? What do you get out of it? Arepeople’s lives so devoid of hapiness that they must ruin other people’s entetrainment to make everyone else just as miserable?

Once gain: Give us back player managed servers, and these problems GO AWAY.

I really miss the era of single-player-focused FPS titles. All modern gamers seem to want from multiplayer shooters is another battle royale or extraction game. The mass enshitification of one of my favorite genres is sad to watch. At least I can still go back and play DOOM (1993) and Quake whenever I want.

People are the friggin worst.

I downloaded and tried the game for a short while, 3 matches, 3 instant deaths by cheaters. Yeah, not a fun experience to say the least. Neat idea, killed by d-bags.

The ethics debate aside (which is a huge one) is that it instantly looks like AI. It has that flat, cheap feel with selective levels of detail because current image AI is really just approximating some mishmash from training data. It’s kind like any of those meal delivery/prep services—at first you might think “wow

prompts were “raised by wolves intro” “green” and “looks like dogshit”

Seems like the entire point of the game was obviously to comment on colonialism right? And by using these mechanics one could shed light on the nature of imperial projects, the often raw economic logic behind these projects and the calculus of the underlying systems. Right?

And what is it when someone forgoes sarcasm entirely and just calls you a coward and a lickspittle directly to your face?

Wow so brave

Games:

I’d like to live in a world where we ignore misogynists. I can only imagine it is not the majority of gamers that are upset and just a small percentage of basement dwelling cave trolls. We need to stop giving them the attention they so desperately crave

Wait 12 months and get it fully patched for less than half the price.

If these third parties would just start developing for PC as the lead platform and then porting down to consoles, a lot of this would stop.  Internally, consoles are more like PCs than ever before.  This shouldn’t be hard to address.

So you say you’re not going to mention the ingredients for Napalm, but then you embed a tweet that...clearly mentions all the ingredients?

“If a good movie is successful, people will make bad movies." Is this a joke I'm missing?

This Wired article wasn’t criticism, it was a hit job. The dude basically hated Sanderson from the get go and in spite of all the evidence that he’s a nice guy decided “hey fuck this guy”

Sanderson is best known as the writer of The Stormlight Archive, The Reckoners, and Mistborn series
