This. I’m just baffled that people aren’t getting this.

They did their big Steam announcement three years ago in the wake of already waning donations and they are now seeing that this very different (more diverse?) demographic wasn’t actually up for a 20 year development cycle (what Adam says it will take). I’m not sure how much more money they can extract from that

They chose to “release” on Steam and this is one of the very very easy-to-predict results of that choice.

“How dare you question them about asking for money for something that is free?!”

This is just a weird sentence.

I assume this is to fund the free version...

It depends. If your job is testing/viewing all sorts of media, some of which is inevitably going to ride some boundary, then it could be completely understandable. I mean...ideally... if this sort of thing happened around a “reasonable” boss they would be embarrassed about the situation and no one would think twice

I’m also just generally reluctant to accept the conclusions of “corporate internal investigations”... even when I like the outcome. Bias is a powerful drug.

This is not how reason is supposed to work.

could you?

The toxicity in gamer culture is just gross.

The problem is, as is often the case, with interpretation and definitions.

It’s not mysterious or surprising to a religious person that people outside their religion are wrong about stuff. That is completely expected. They think their religion is right, and that is all that really matters to them.

Industry doesn’t matter. What matters is whether your job can or cannot be done remote, and anyone doing any kind of desk job that doesn’t require an on-site (e.g. client-facing, etc) task can and should be allowed to work remotely.

it makes it quite clear he’s taking a swipe at work in general and not just the automative industry since he claims that the only reason Telsa never went bankrupt is because “he was on the frontlines working long hours.”

Now playing

OK. I spent a few minutes backtracking on my information diet. You win, I guess. This is a piece that I found challenging (being a left liberal in most senses) and it’s at least related to what I’m trying to point at. It’s tough to just extract data points on demand from an ongoing lived experience of information, but

“As someone who does nothing, I am personally offended at people who do literally everything all at once precisely as much as I am at people who only do some of those things.”

Is this persuasive to people? I do all that work and maybe, if you feel like it, you’ll consider engaging?! The vagueness of my speech reflects my lack of confidence in the topic. I’m describing my, admittedly, limited experience.

Fair.

Am I the only one that thinks it’s kind of obvious he was talking about the automotive industry?

I’m still not particularly persuaded by his argument (and generally grossed out by the tone) but it seems like all the responses and this entire article and most of the comments are just a (willfull?) misunderstanding of

If your response is “they’re trying, so they’re above criticism” then you’re not really contributing much either.
