Nice, but damn, every time I got to Daiso, I look for them awesome Japanese KitKats.  Matcha KitKats for the win, peoples!

Cole slaw if I’m looking for something near salad-ish but not looking to eat healthy.  And I love sweet potato fries with a side of aioli.

I think what bothers me is that Disney often will sidestep past mistakes and try to erase them from their history instead of owning up that yeah, they were pretty racist for a long time. Song of the South is just the most glaring example.

I’d really rather they dealt with it like Warner Brothers did with the Looney Tune releases.  Don’t deny it existed but call it out as racist shit.  It’s a bit like if Germany tried to pretend that the Holocaust never happened.

Religion is the Opiate of the people.  Obviously, so is Kayne West.

My local chocolate shop seems to avoid most of the issues you cite in your article and they’re the only place I’ll buy chocolate covered strawberries from.  Personally, I think they must practice some sort of culinary voodoo to get it right.  It’s the only explanation.

There are certain epic films I will watch over and over again. Spartacus along with Lawrence of Arabia are two of them. We went to the Stanley Krubrick exhibit in SF when it was at the Jewish History Museum. Once of my favorite stills was the one of the extras with their numbers, so Stanley could give them specific

Oh damn sir, you just gave me another reason to be homesick for Northern NJ...I’ll take one of those and a taylor ham sandwich on a kaiser roll please.

With the kids now in their twenties, we’ve switched to just the German hollow Easter eggs, which I fill with chocolate and usually have a chocolate bunny on the side.

That was far too much dude-ness in one article.  As well as hair bleach.

I have a friend at work that makes chocolate truffles that seriously look like cat poop. Every pot luck, we beg her to make cat poop truffles.

As someone whose mom is no longer with us, ignore the monotony of the  food and cherish the time and the conversation. In the long run, its far more important than taking her out of her comfort zone.

My mom, who passed away over a decade ago, was the triumvirate of challenges to take out for dinner: She was an older German woman (no filter), had eaten at great restaurants in her day in NYC and was a chef/cook. She was at least tolerant of different cuisines, but damn she was picky as hell about service and food

Starting with the Strawberry season in CA, I make jam throughout the summer months ending in the fall with Apple jelly (which is a pain to make, but really delicious). My kids have never had store bought jam. When my daughter went to college and purchased a jar at a store, she was appalled and I had to send care

I invite the entire Swiss council to my house on any given day before I have my first cup. It isn’t pretty and I can guarantee that it’s probably vital to everyone’s survival that I have a cup before dealing with humans.

Government contracts (yes, I know for experience, I work for a government agency in CA) are tricky and overly negotiated. And sometimes, when situations arise, they call for creative ways to circumvent short-sighted thinking.

Now playing

When I’m having a difficult day, this always cheers me up.  Its the over dramatic quality of it that makes it so great.

I had a co-worker from the Midwest who we took out to a Mexican hole in the wall for lunch. When it was time for him to order, he asked for nachos con todo, pronouncing “todo” as “too doo”. It’s become the running joke in our place when we order out for Mexican food now.

Since my very white husband loves the suburban “tacos” of his youth, I usually have some of this mix around. And, yes if I can’t find any chili powder in the midst of making said chili, the taco seasoning pack comes in handy.

I love pierogi, and one of my best memories from high school is being at my friend’s house making them with her mom.  However, the thought of making them without the assembly line of her mom, myself and my friend is a bit off putting.  Like tamales, its more fun and efficient as a group project.
