Excellent point. Before we moved in together my partner did a stint on 59th and 1st Ave, and that was an absolute food no man’s land. As you said, boring and terrible. I’ll add: expensive! There was an allegedly upscale Greek restaurant on his block that traumatized us with shitty food and bad service (for the record I…
Maybe he’s trying to model himself after his hero Trump? Definitely leaning in that direction.
This is so many restaurants in Manhattan, depending on tourist-y-ness of the area. Little Italy restaurants are particularly not good, but then they don’t have to be; most of their customers wander in and will never be back, so why bother having good food (I know, there are a few okay places)?
But who actually asked for this?
Did he ever not look like shit?
To be fair, the Trumps were horrible long before the Kardashians made the scene.
Kids today, with their runways and nightly fashion shows and starting things on fire!
I think I would’ve really enjoyed that trailer if they cut the something-something-humanity’s-purpose super-generic monologue. Like, just show me those scenes slowly building to the final reveal, and don’t hit me over the head with Sweeping Orchestral Space Movie Music.
Jessica Chastain and Andrew Garfield look almost unrecognizable in their new roles as televangelists Tammy Faye and Jim Bakker
Same. I like a lot of the guests and contributors, and she’s great, but it’s not quiiiite something I’m enjoying. I hope they play with the format a bit. Agreed the videos are super well done.
It’s not super-clear from reading the thread? OP lamented how ugly Soderbergh’s films are, I replied that beautiful cinematography (ie Nolan) isn’t everything. Sometimes conversations about filmmakers reference other filmmakers...
Ehhhh, I think Cinematic and Beautiful and Expensive is overrated. Nolan does all that, and his stuff will no doubt age very well (I mean, good for him), but ... I can barely get through his films. This looks fun. I’ll watch it once, probably have a good time (ala Logan Lucky), and never think about it again.
Same thought. I immediately found myself wishing they’d referenced some of the Bronco design work. All in all, it’s just OK, but I won’t zonk them too hard because I think it’s a good effort (small truck, fantastic mileage).
Hah, I watched the video and spent the entire time thinking - huh, Gabrielle Union just appeared? And she’s selling... Ford trucks? I like Gabrielle Union, (more power to her for getting some Ford cash), and now I’m very curious which other celebs were taped to the whiteboard in that brainstorming session.
My best (and possibly the simplest) explanation is they didn’t wanna have a small child running around with a gun. But evidently they still wanna have her shoot people, so...
Haven’t watched it yet, but I’m massively looking forward to whatever wacky hijinx Omeeeega gets into this week. Perhaps a butterfly flaps past (space butterfly), and she absentmindedly chases it into a den of grizzled killers, immediately after having been told to stay put. A formula that never gets old!

You’re giving Marvel an awful lot of credit. Black Panther was like the 20th film they made. It’s not like Blade wasn’t a huge, commercially successful franchise decades ago. I mean, they didn’t even make a female-led film until fans were demanding it for years. I’m glad they’ve finally realized having diverse films…
Of all the plotlines and red herrings, I’d give the boot to Professor Ideal Boyfriend. He felt the soapiest and most tacked-on. When he asked Mare “does anyone ever... take care of you?” (err, not verbatim), I cringed. Such a romance novel line, and character. The dreamy not-from-round-here guy who swoops in and finds…
