It’s almost like they need to prove to themselves that they are the “nice guy” who would “never do that.” So now the trauma of being assaulted is overshadowed by another man doing another violence. It’s never about what the survivor is going through or what they need. 

I’ve read multiple accounts about this exact scenario. Women not telling their parents or other loved ones about being assaulted, because they knew the men in their lives would just make things worse by attempting to murder someone. So they stay quiet and don’t get the necessary help.
