But where did the lighter fluid come from?!

God, I love that scene so much.

YEP.

Yeah, definitely. I was thinking of writing a comment in response to the question Manuel posed, but I think you pretty much nailed what I was going to say.

I’d say it’s because it highlights what a goofily awkward pun it is.

Hah, I don’t think I ever encountered that. Maybe it’s because the original “Hurt” was a bigger hit. Or I’m of the right age where people knew Nine Inch Nails well, but not Tears For Fears beyond their few biggest hits.

I feel like the second category is stuff that makes you cringe when you admit to watching, but the first category is stuff that makes you cringe while watching. The Curse is definitely the former; while they’re not playing themselves, you can tell Fielder’s talents for awkwardness and Safdie’s for anxiety are on full

I’m not really into reality shows or trash TV, but the idea of a reality dating show that just fully embraces being ridiculous bullshit and doesn’t try to put a sincere veneer on it is at least intriguing in concept. And I like Nikki Glaser— Not Safe is probably long-forgotten but I thought it was quite good.

I don’t recall that with Moonbase 8, although that was only six episodes and pretty explicitly a comedy.

Oh, yeah, Dougie is 100% thinking this is awesome and then immediately trying to cover his ass once Whitney is completely appalled by the show. He 100% is thinking that. Which also makes it really funny to me that he has such a poor grasp of who Whitney and Asher are that he thought they’d think it was awesome too.

Yep, nailed some of my thoughts, particularly how ridiculous and in total bad taste Love to the Third Degree was (we had to pause it because my wife couldn’t stop laughing at “The Fire Burns On”) and how Fielder’s character here is much more emotionally volatile than the “Nathan Fielder” of Nathan For You and The

The biggest difference I noticed in this performance vs. Nathan Fielder’s work as “Nathan Fielder” is how quickly he is prone to anger under that placid surface, which we never really saw in Nathan For You or The Rehearsal. Asher is a much more emotionally volatile character than we usually see Nathan play, and

This show ruled; I never understood why it didn’t get the buzz other period costume dramas get, when it’s so funny and well-plotted on top of all the typical pleasures of the genre. (Well, if you’re not super-duper into historical accuracy, anyway.)

Two of the songs here are responsible for one of my favorite stories in the music industry.

In the land of Dylan covers, The Byrds’ “My Back Pages” deserves mention.

I’m not particularly a Metallica fan (I recognize their good music as good, but metal’s not really my thing), but I really like their “Whiskey in the Jar” version.

Ooh, great call. Man, this list has a lot of omissions.

If you just drop the YouTube link in here it should embed automatically.

Heh, heard that on the 1st Wave station for their Halloween playlist, great version.

I’m mostly annoyed that after Donnie Darko came out so many people didn’t even know the original was Tears For Fears.
