I was going to agree with you, but on second thought ... novels don’t have the same time-bound limitations as television. Watching old television is really weird, but books can be read over a longer period of time and still feel fresh.

It certainly makes him look bad, at the very least of having bad judgment on the film set. Having the story out there may make actors less willing to work with him, or take his word for things. 

Directors “coerce” actors all the time — they tell them what to do, and the actors do it. Stuff that happens on set is pretty different from behind the scenes or casting couch activities.
