Yeah, if/when I get married, I don't plan on legally changing my name. I've had too many friends go through the hassle of getting their names changed back after divorce. One friend, it took her twice as long as the marriage lasted to get everything switched back to her maiden name!

Crap Bag Hannigan? Nope, just Crap Bag. First name Crap, last name Bag.

What I wonder about is how an 8 yr old could handle a gun well enough to shoot someone. I mean, I've shot a few guns in my day, and when I shot a revolver or hand gun of some kind, the kick back was so bad, I could hardly keep it in my hands.

My boyfriend is in the same camp you are re: loaded guns for self-defense. But I believe the statistics that arming yourself during a home invasion will escalate a potentially non-violent situation to a violent one, so we're sort of at an impasse as far as home defense. I say we should just have a baseball bat next to

Yeah, that's why I don't think that one has any basis in fact. I was raised Mormon, and the Mormon practice of baptism is based on following the example of Jesus, which is why they do baptism by immersion rather than infant baptisms with a sprinkle of water.

Yeah that confused me. I was raised Mormon and the reason the church does baptism by immersion (a full dunk at age 8 or older, rather than infant baptisms of a sprinkling) is because that is how Jesus was baptized and he set the standard we are all supposed to follow.

At my company, we are very careful to avoid "whitewashing" discussions of slavery, as was done under previous management here. For the really young ones, ex. 3rd grade, we discuss it in simplistic terms, but still make clear the system of slavery, that it was not a choice for the slaves, and that it was not a good way

I totally agree with you. If I heard someone referring to a young man as Master Will, I wouldn't automatically think of slavery, I'd think of Geoffrey from Fresh Prince.

I am, sort of, a historian of slavery, in that I write about slavery for elementary school textbooks, but knowing that "master" was used in referring to young men in olden British days (also, Fresh Prince), I don't really have a problem with it, because it's such a rare word to see used in it's appropriate context

Ahhh, I see.

I went to the City College of New York in Harlem (I'm white) and I was in one of the study lounges one day, and a group of kids, most of whom were black, and possibly other ethinicities, though none caucasian, were laughing and calling each other the n-word in casual conversation.

Is that....not what it means? I grew up in Southern California, and was well aware that "wetbacks" was a racial slur for Mexican immigrants, but I thought it meant the same thing you did, that they were always sweaty because they were the ones doing hard work outside, ie: gardeners, picking strawberries (my town had

Thanks! I will definitely be adding that to my list of things to watch!

I really hope the laminated list is a reference to that Friends episode, because I can only hear that said in Isabella Rosselini's accent, "But it is lam-ee-nated"

Definitely. It also sounds somewhat like something you would read on a t-shirt being sold in Japan.

I had a Mormon boyfriend ask me to dress more modestly so as to not tempt him sexually. I wear boring jeans and t-shirts every day. I wish I'd thought to tell him that his boner was not my problem.

I was raised Mormon, and you are misinformed on a couple things. The Mormon underwear does not cover "from wrist to neck." For women, it is an undershirt that has very small cap sleeves, and a scoop neck that can be worn with *almost* all t-shirts. The bottoms go just a tad longer than mid-thigh. Trust me on this,

It's not a violation, the guy was just a self-righteous asshole blaming this girl for him having sexy thoughts about her.

I don't know, I'm pretty surprised by the clothes my garment-wearing friends are able to get away with. I've seen way more cleavage from temple-going ladies than I ever would have thought.

As a former Mormon, I once dated a Mormon fellow for quite a while, and thus we had to resist the urges do do naughty physical things with each other. When discussing ways to best do this once he requested that I "dress more modestly" so as not to tempt him.
