These folks are far gone.
These folks are far gone.
yes
I am awestruck with Jared Harris’ acting. He has taken the intelligent vulnerability of Lane Pryce and elevated that character into a stronger yet sensitive naval captain who fallible but of whom the audience can completely relate.
Can’t be said enough how brilliant this show is. I can’t wait to see what AVC thinks of the last few episodes. I still can’t stop thinking about it two weeks after finishing all 10.
Blanky is what’s called “ A good man in a storm”. Every captain would want to have a Blanky with him.
Wasn’t it dope when Negan did the Tango?
I gotta tell you, I was NOT expecting it to be a musical episode.
I don’t think my parents were Russian spies (or were they?) but it used to drive me bonkers when they’d do that. They could be screaming bloody murder at me, but if the phone or the doorbell rang they’d automatically switch to acting like Mr. Rogers.
I’m going to go out on a limb and say that Elizabeth’s parents probably just TOLD her it was “beef.”
Yes, quite a departure from The Americans’ usual pollyannaish world view.
That’s an astute take on it.
Speaking of that stew aka “zharkoye”
Yeah but Elizabeth has always been an ideologue. That’s why I’m not so sure I agree with Erik’s guess about where this is all heading--there’s not a lot of room for her type in a post-soviet, hyper-capitalist Russia. Wouldn’t it make more thematic sense if Philip survives?
See, I think the manipulation is, or has become, focused on Elizabeth, as well as Paige. Claudia must realize that she is pressuring Elizabeth to perform a number of risky missions, with little or no appropriate preparation.
I’m going to miss this show. The pilot was one of the best episodes of TV I’ve ever seen and I am older than most of you. The sum total of the 6 seasons is likely to put this show right up with Breaking Bad as my 1&2 all time faves.
I figured the reason Elizabeth offed Evan is because he mentioned that his girlfriend worked in security, and therefore might have been able to tell him that Elizabeth’s “security audit” cover story was bullshit.
One thing I have missed from this season that I got a brief retaste of this week was the Paige-Phillip relationship. The sight of the two most put upon characters in the show finally locking eyes this season was wonderful to see. Paige and Phillip are the heart and soulof The Americans, the two characters most aware…
So glad the AV Club commentariat is still strong for this show! I was dreading the response to these reviews since the Kinjapocalypse. You folks have always filled in the color to the palette of this show, pointing out details that I had missed. I hope the crew from the show will also still pop on by.
I swear... they already took Nina. Martha is god knows where. DO NOT take Oleg from us now. This is like a character who survives a horror movie then dies in the unexpected sequel. Just let OLEG GO and live out his life with his hot Russian wife with her hot Russian neck mole.
My take was that she’s still early-on in her training. She’s a spy-intern. They clearly have hopes that Paige Jennings will become a high-level mole in the U.S. security apparatus. Having her be“Julie” and do basic spy stuff like watching and following people is the first step. She’s a grunt now; someday she’ll be a…
