There are about 4 or 5 different “types” of Black Mirror episodes, and I think individual favorites and least favorites depend on which of those types you like and dislike. You have the “Well-intentioned technology enabling individuals worst impulses” category (The Entire History of You, Ark-Angel, etc); the “Screwed

I don’t think the mother was evil painted with broad strokes. In keeping with the themes of Black Mirror, technology is still the monster here. It’s the sleek and shiny thing that tempts us with control and convenience.

What the absolute fuck is going on in this thread.

I enjoyed this one a bit better — structurally, it reminded me a bit of White Christmas with how the stories sort of came full circle, albeit a bit less successfully. I knew where we were ultimately going, but at the same time, there was tension from the sweating and the water and such that I was ready to see the

This was an episode less reliant on the tech aspect and more about the blackness of the human soul! Mia’s actions are awful but inevitable once she decides she cannot have her life ruined by a past mistake. Very very dark but loved the performances from Andrea Riseborough and Kiran Sonia Sawar. Nice touch making a

Couldn’t have said it better. Black Mirror has always been at its best when it induces a sense of dread, when it literally holds up a ‘black mirror’ to the potentially dangerous paths our technology might be leading us down. This episode was just sci-fi.

“Mom makes the most questionable decisions, and at least two of those decisions are so obviously bad that it takes special effort on the part of the actress to keep the character from turning into a onenote villain.”

I think this was supposed to be the ‘San Junipero’ sequel Brooker had alluded to.... How and who created the technology in that episode.

Yeah, it didn’t work for me, either. As you say, it came across really forced and unnatural. I remember actually thinking “oh god, some people’ll think this is brilliant”.

This will be an unpopular post, I’m certain. But another commenter wrote a few recaps back that if he had not seen season 1 and this were the first season he saw, he wasn’t sure he would’ve stuck with it. That is exactly how I feel.

Oh absolutely! That’s easily in my top 5, maybe 3, shows of all time. I don’t know how I forgot that one. Maybe because “Ozymandias” was so great and kind of overshadows “Felina” when looking back at the final stretch of that show as a whole. Some people thought that finale tied things up too neatly, but I loved it.

I cannot recommend this show strongly enough. The back end of this season was so exquisitely heartbreaking. The first three and a half laid the groundwork for a hell of a catharsis.

Man and those music choices were as always excellent

The most powerful and terrifying four words in our language.

When the sign lit up, tears started shooting out of my eyes. It was such an unexpected flourish for this show, yet so perfect . And Joe’s smile at the end! To see him at peace with himself was so damn good to see. God, this finale. So many little unexpected moments, all borne of love. Just a fabulous, fabulous ending.

I am at a loss for words, but am thankful there are others out there that witnessed this beautiful show.

I had written something long and heartfelt, and then was logged out...and now it’s gone. So, in short -

“I hope that by the time my daughters are my age they don’t have to have gatherings like this one to remind themselves they’re here.”

I started sobbing when the imaginary Phoenix logo appeared over Cameron and Donna’s heads, and didn’t stop until Joe broke into a serene, finally-at-peace smile while surveying his classroom. I hope shows like Halt and Catch Fire become the rule, not the exception.

This show was a miracle.
