I’m having a hard time with all the “Kim’s reaction as Jimmy hardens” interpretations—and it’s only a problem insofar as many viewers seem to think it foreshadows their breakup.

I stand corrected.
I thought it was very considerate of the police to take sooooo long getting to that motel, in that very small town, that Camille and John had plenty of time to shag. (One more ridiculous touch, as far as I’m concerned.)
She has. I also suspect she has not washed her hair.
I think I’ve just switched to hate-watching. By this point there’s nothing “surprisingly” tedious about it, whether it’s Amy Adams’ monotonic, faux-sexy drawl of every line, the slow-mo camera of her driving around that tiny town and the male gaze on Amma/Lolita, the one-note creepiness of Adora or the overblown…
I agree, Chuck earned the hatred from Jimmy. I can’t work up much outrage or shock over Jimmy’s response to Howard, and I sure hope this isn’t meant to signal Jimmy’s big transition to Saul. I mean, it wouldn’t have hurt Jimmy to express a little fake sympathy—and it would have spared him from Kim’s horrified look—but…
It is definitely implausible that Amma could be running that wild, that often, with her mother so clueless. And I agree with the overdone close-ups on drunken Camille. Altogether that character seems like a case of teenage arrested development.
Yes, that’s a crime. (I want The Americans to win everything.)
Yet it got so many Emmy nominations, as if the quality had not plummeted compared with last season. Not for the first time, I question the judgement of those doing the nominating.
True.
“Where did she come from?” is the right question. I had seen her in Dr. Foster, Thirteen, and a few other things—and had concluded that she was just another pretty face. Her performance in Killing Eve blew me away. At the very least, she deserves a nomination.
Sandra was very good, but Jodie’s performance made that show work. As for snubbing The Terror? Unforgivable. The Emmys are a joke.
“She is well over 50 and looks every year of it.” Thank you for saying it so I don’t have to. I’m trying to decide what was less plausible in this episode, trying to pass off Helen as fertile (even with treatments) or Noah’s lame classroom discussion being inspiring enough to spawn a student walkout.
Well, no shit. The plot was unintelligible. I like to understand what I’m watching.
Who’s still watching this shit? I’m feeling emboldened to speak out after just reading that Westworld—another show I dropped—had a 30 percent ratings drop in season 2. The Handmaid’s Tale squandered so much goodwill this season and turned into a boring (yes, boring!) slog of torture porn and ridiculous close-ups of…
“What’re you doing in five months, two weeks and two days?” Come on, this is The Affair and this is Alison. They’ll be banging in the elevator in their next episode.
This episode made me want to beat Helen’s spoiled little head in. Tense, is she? From her life’s many struggles? Born wealthy, never had to work, had her ex-husband keep her from a murder rap, marries a handsome successful surgeon who whisks her off to a gorgeous home in California, etc. The stress just never ends ...
I’d say there’s no way this show will make it past season 5, except that so many once-good series keep going and going though the quality is gone. (OITNB, The Walking Dead, etc.) I loved season one of Handmaid, but I’m pretty sure last week’s episode will be my last. I checked in here to read about it and feel no need…
Even worse, it was a repeat of the “uplifting” little sequence from last season that had the handmaids marching together to an inspiring soundtrack. To me, this show has been floundering all season after leaving the novel’s source material behind. This last episode was so bad I think I’m gonna have to drop it. I was…
Get in line. I have a crush on Kim and I’m a straight woman. Her character is just so wonderful, and her ponytail is just so perfect.
