True story: In the 1950s, my grandmother faked sick once to get out of work. Unremarkable. Except she decided to fake appendicitis. And then she went to an actual doctor and faked appendicitis very convincingly, and NEVER backed out of the act. And then she went to an actual surgeon and didn’t back out from faking

(To be clear, as I type this I’m looking through prescription glasses that I bought for about $30 online. I’m not as posh as my casual references to Prussia and gems would have you believe, haha.)

You don’t have one already? That’s embarrassing. ;-)

The real Mark Twain plays the role of “dead man doing barrel rolls in the grave forever”

wait i’m sorry

Husband is the best man at a destination wedding, so we're required to attend. We had to turn it into our own honeymoon or else we'd never be able to go on one at all. And we basically tried to crowd-fund that through our own wedding gifts.

This is the worst thing I have ever heard. You have ruined my day.

One time in LA, I watched a dude order a double meat Seafood Sensation / Cheesesteak hybrid. He sheepishly looked at me and said “Surf and Turf”. Haven’t had Subway since.

I wish airfare was only $225 on average. Domestic Canadian flights can be upwards of $800 for a 5 hour trip from Toronto to Vancouver. I’m looking for flights to attend a wedding and we’re look at $720 RT per person + hotel for 3 days (and boarding for the dog, but that’s an expected flat rate per day).

Yup. A close family friend of mine that I grew up with got married while I was still in university. Living on the other side of the country, it wasn’t feasible for me to attend. I was already planning to visit home in August to go camping with my Dad’s side of the family, whereas the wedding was planned for October.

And really a sign of the times. Back in the day, I bet you could get like a dozen wet nurses for the $80/week they now spend on formula.

And the Find the Missing Cheerios book would long ago have been offered to the bonnie prince by a Prussian viceroy.

And presumably “gem-encrusted toddler monocle” would also be on

I’m kinda curious to know if it will be a follow on (as in that crew post discovering real aliens) or an attempt to make the show that the movie was, kinda, based on?

The concept is great, but I also think the cast is what really made the film. The track record for rehashing beloved cult films/shows is very poor and the original is such a masterpiece, I don't want it sullied by a subpar adaptation.

Galaxy Quest is a phenomenal movie and if they ruin it with a shitty television adaptation I will never forgive them. Fuck that.

lmao i say it all the time

i also hate “#sorrynotsorry”. hate it so much.

I really, really like the idea that this is in fact an email from Will & Kate.

Wouldn’t a better suggestion be a short email saying:

I just cannot imagine telling someone up front, “If you give us a gift that’s not on the list be sure to include the receipt because we’re going to return it and we don’t want to only get half the value...” I’m an old, so maybe this is just a thing people do nowadays.
