What a compassionate and nuanced response! The story about your mom resonated with me and made my heart pang for everyone who deals with “brain farts” on the regular but are seen as incompetent (I can only imagine how hard that must be). Anyway, your comment brightened my day and I just had to tell you. :)

Uhh yeah, randos setting off fireworks in a dry area would be terrifying! We live in suburbia but I have the same anxieties about hour house catching fire when our neighbor celebrates the 4th. And like you mentioned, the effect they have on Vets, animals, and the environment is just not worth it imo. I know it makes me

I was nodding along to every sentence in your comment!

I hate fireworks (for all the reasons you mentioned), I’m no Katy Perry stan (although she’s fine & I do like Firework, minus the silly line about feeling like a plastic bag), and the cynical side of me will sometimes lightly mock overly-earnest and cheesy

fucking SAME. I legit hate giving them clicks and I usually just skim their mostly snarky articles. But I get SO much value out of content in the comments section... that’s what I’m here for.

Your thoughts on this topic are giving me life rn! Thank you for so eloquently articulating the deep discomfort I feel about the housing structure in this country. Seriously, you rock.

I just tried Thread-Up the other day and it was awesome! Popular brands at half off prices, and bc it’s a thrift store there’s no plastic packaging. Deliveries seem to take a little while, but I’m pretty satisfied with my first purchases. Good luck!

Exactly! Like, I’m never going to give someone shitty service bc they got something comped or they had a gift card. I do my best bc I care about hospitality; but, it’s fucking disappointing when I get that 10% after I hustled for you.

You are so right. Ugh, super infuriating that the restaurant was encouraging a tip percentage based on the discounted bill. You and your mom are amazing and we servers appreciate you!!

An additional reason to tip your server 20% (besides what many wonderful people here have mentioned, you know, don’t fuck over working people even though the current system is trash) is that many servers are required to tip out their support staff.

At the end of my shift I have to tip out my bartenders, server

Thank you!! Not many people think about this.

As a server, I can tell you that most people tip on the discounted amount. This also happens when people throw in cash to be taken off the bill first— it’s like that part of the bill disappears and then they only tip on whatever portion goes on a credit card. But my tip outs

Your comments in this thread are wonderful. Thanks for taking the time to explain things so eloquently.

omg, thank you for saying this! My brain got stuck on that part.

Adam has always been an incredible talent. We were in choir together during high school and we all just knew he was born to sing/perform. He’s making San Diego proud!

Fucking thank you

OMG YES. I was getting so agitated watching that episode bc like you said, the mom thought everything was her responsibility and the dad just seemed like a third child (who, as you mentioned, let her beat herself up in those interviews... hopefully it was just edited that way, bc ugh). I just wanted to hug that mom

This one was my favorite! I could barely stop laughing enough to read it to my husband. So good.

An amazing resource on how to set and enforce boundaries (for all types of relationships, but especially with difficult people) is the advice blog at CaptainAwkward.com.

This is exactly right

Holy shit you just blew my mind! I know I should’ve known this after watching both seasons of QE but I seriously didn’t make the connection until reading your comment. Ugh, the RW history definitely makes me like him less (even though I know people can change if they make the effort).
