I saw the picture of Kayden Kross and though, “Oh, so Jennie Garth has a new show?” Nope.

Exactly. Same deal if you order a $200 bottle of wine. Tipping $36 on that is unrealistic, and most servers know that. Well, at least most servers who work in places which sell that kind of wine.
Yeah, at places where bartenders are pouring shots of vodka, I think expecting a dollar per shot is unreasonable. I kinda want to work at one of those dumbass Jersey Shore bars. I am only bartending while I pursue other interests. I don’t really want to be a “craft bartender.” And I want to wear whatever I want. Lol.
Yeah, thanks. When people seem uncomfortable, I do understand since I am asking them to make a split second decision on something which usually doesn’t happen. If they later come back for a second round, they usually understand what I was trying to do and offer to just “close out,” without having to know the total.
I hate the “just a beer” people too. Sometimes I get a group of people who order “6 shots of grey goose!” And I think, alright, easy peasy. Then the ringleader says, “And 6 backs!” OF WHAT?!?! And each douchebag wants a back of a different liquid. Ugh, a “shot” can become a pain in the ass really fast, especially if…
The worst is when a customer orders, “whatever, you decide,” and then complains about not liking it. Can’t these people just take their lumps?
Honestly, I think that the American tipping system is broken and needs to be updated. Some people are greatly underpaid, and others are grossly overpaid. And I think that customers are given too much power, and in the long run, I think more people would eat out if tipping were outlawed.
Some people understand the situation and immediately agree. Others waver a little bit, and when I sense they’re not comfortable, I immediately offer them a receipt with the price on it.
Yeah, you wish you were getting $1 per drink. I bet you wish you were making $5 tips per drink as well. $1800 divided between 5 people is still $360. Yes, not every night is Saturday night, and you still might be tipping out other staff members, but do you really have a right to complain? I am also a bartender, and I…
I think your opinion is bold to the point of being obviously false. It is entirely possible to get a properly made old fashioned. I make them all the time at my bar in San Francisco.
Where do you live in California? I live and work in San Francisco.
Really? So if you order an $8 drink you will tip, what? $6? That’s very generous, and you really don’t need to do that. But if you an afford it and you like doing so, then you’re awesome.
If tipping were outlawed, restaurants and bars would just raise their prices so that the consumer effectively paid the same.
I was surprised that you think Wisconsin is the Mecca for old fashioneds. I just looked it up on wikipedia, and it says that Wisconsin is famous for using brandy instead of bourbon. This can be a defensible modification, but I am really curious why you chose Wisconsin as the only place you can get a decent old…
Uh, I cannot really understand your comment. I personally avoid bars which serve drinks at those high prices. And my point is that the 1987 rule should be updated, as in the “rule” should be more than $1 by now. I also understand that it is hard to change such rules, as in it will be a long time before the “rule”…
Yeah, that is extremely atypical.
I am a bartender and I agree that your roommates need to shut their goddamn mouths.
Yeah, it would benefit me to know the wine prices, but “The $8.95 chardonnay is a needlessly roundabout way of ordering.” Once an older man asked for “the German beer,” he was referring to Tsingtao and then gave me a long ass history lecture on how Germans founded Tsingtao in China in the 19th century. Fuck him.
The dollar per drink rule is a little disconcerting. How long has that been the rule? Since, maybe 1987? Well, that was great in 1987, less great 28 years later. Same deal with tipping a dollar to a porter per bag. I’m a bartender and I think that the American tipping system is broken. Why should a server get more…
Recently, the bar was packed and a pushy, older woman ordered a “white wine,” I opened the menu to the wine section and showed her our 20 white wines. She then said, “I’ll have the $8.95 chardonnay.” Yeah, like I know the prices of all of our wines. Her husband told her, “You gotta do better than that.” Thanks…
