Can’t you see, how “just a beer” is an idiotic question? Everybody hates morons driving on the road, yet morons in bars is such a divided issue. Some people understand how to behave, and some people do not. And some people will tirelessly defend the morons.

I am a bartender, my bar is often overwhelmingly busy. I really hate the people who don’t know what they want and/or wait until I tell them the total to pull their wallet out. Gee, is the fact that you have to pay a surprise?

Ah, interesting. I wonder if servers are not complaining since it is all they have known? The loonie was introduced in 1987, so I imagine most current servers can barely remember the dollar note, if at all. If the US abruptly switched from dollar bills to coins only, the servers would probably be annoyed.

My bar give me a drawer of money totalling $450, with usually over $100 in 5’s and maybe $80 in ones. I have now accepted that the drawers will be heavier for sure, but not staggeringly heavy. The drawers will probably have to be redesigned. In fact, definitely.

Yeah, somebody else in these comments wrote that in Canada, people tip strippers in $5 bills. Is that really true? If that were the case, I could easily see strippers’ income DROPPING significantly. Do people at Canadian strip clubs purchase “tickets” for $1 to be given to strippers? I can see that as less appealing,

I am male. I’m quite handsome, but also exceedingly skinny (which I think matters, in a negative way). I have also worked in the restaurant biz for several years. When I am waiting tables, women frequently do stare at me, to the point where the man turns around to see. I always perceive a “what are you going to do

Well, let me think: An American “quarter,” or $.25, often comes in rolls of 40 ($10 US). And I often have a full roll in my cash register drawer. So, maybe 80 dollar coins wouldn’t be THAT heavy. It would be heavier for sure, but not like carrying around a bag of bricks.

Are you in Canada? I am in the US. Every shift, I am handed a drawer full of money form which to make change. This usually includes $80 in $1 bills. How would that work with dollar coins?

Yeah, maybe the $2 bill will become more popular with a shift toward $1 coins. Interestingly, one of the reasons the “Tom” fell out of use is because it was associated with “bad” things: $2 prostitutes, and $2 bets at the race track. You can still place $2 bets, but two bucks for a trick? Hardly. I find it interesting

Yes. I actually have started to reconsider my earlier comment. I am a bartender and for every shift, I receive a a cash register drawer with $450, typically with $80 in dollar bills. To replicate that with dollar coins seems really difficult and cumbersome. How do Canadian/British/etc. retailers deal with that?

Many “Al” words, such as alcohol and Alcatraz (island of sea birds) come from the Arabic language.

Yes. A moron. “As a hole,” wtf? That looked like a freudian slip, i.e., “Our centre agreed, we are assholes!”

When I was in high school, I would wait in the line for the vending machines, but not to buy anything. When it was my “turn” I would get on the ground and pick up all of the dropped pennies. I would also check for pennies under the drive through windows at fast food places.

John Oliver’s first argument against the penny is that it is not cost effective. Neither is the dollar bill compared to a dollar coin. Coins last decades, paper money, not so much. But dollar coins definitely cost more to produce, but their longevity more than makes up for it.

I’m American, and when I was in Montreal when I was 20, a homeless person asked me for change, I gave him the first coin I pulled out of my pocket. He was extremely grateful, and I then realized I had just given him $2Canadian. I regretted it, but he probably needed it more than I.

Ah. I didn’t watch the clip. I am chagrined. I hope several people do not now tell me what you just told me.

One argument in favor of pennies, is that may charities depend on collecting them.

I know, right? the US government routinely fails in its attempts to make dollar coins more popular. You know what would work? Stop making dollar bills! The US gov does not need to compete against itself in forms of currency! But yes, I do know, that if people really hate dollar coins, they would just use cash less. Or

True, I agree. How can I see Nancy as some rebellious artist when she wasn’t even an artist? However, I generally dislike punk music.

Yeah, so Sid is seen as a “rebel, artist, cool guy,” while Nancy is reviled? Sure, but Sid and the rest of the Pistols actually created something. Nancy was just kind of there as a companion. Personally, I don’t have much time for punk music, but I did enjoy the movie, “Sid and Nancy.”
