That’s reasonable and not what I think is dumb. What I think is dumb is the “artificial scarcity” theory. Not making enough units due to not wanting to overproduce is not artificial scarcity.

It’s not doubtful, it’s stupid. It’s an idiotic idea to even entertain. Artificial scarcity does not work the way people obviously think it does. Applying that word to what Nintendo is supposed to be doing is wrong.

I’m not debating genre classifications or whether the games are any good. They sold well and are generally classified in genres that are well established and that are not unprofitable, whatever you want to call them. Making a walking simulator or whatever does not mean you are dooming your company to bankruptcy.…

I don’t think the audience is that small. Lots of people play those kinds of adventure games, it’s a well established genre with a long history. I’m sure the audience for those types of games is enough to sustain a developer making video games.
