The Model 3 in the UK, after converting to USD, ranges between $54K and $73k. I guess the UK price probably includes 20% VAT? It seems like the UK has a decent set of small EV’s for sale that start in the high £20K range, including the Fiat, Mini, Leaf, MG4, Renault Zoe, etc...

I am sure this is fast as hell, but I always loved that the S2000 had to be absolutely abused to be fast. I’m all for more power, but how about a strengthened NA 4 that revved to 10k and put out about 300 HP. Now that would be a thrill. And yes, I realize if you kept it under 5k rpms it would still be slower than a

I’ll be slower than the guy with a turbo engine that delivers peak power from 1,500rpm to the 6,250rpm *snicker* “redline” - but I’ll be having a lot more fun and engaging my brain, feet and arms much more having to work for it in the S...

Sure, it made 237 horsepower, but you had to rev the hell out of it to get there.”

So the M3 slammed into the 750 while narrowly missing a Z4?

Well based on the research I’ve done, I’d rather have a Tesla than any other BEV. A slightly misaligned body panel isn’t gonna affect me the way a crappy charging network, a poorly designed battery pack (Nissan) or poorly designed software will.

I have never seen anyone claim that manufacturing any vehicle was easy.”

Most Embarrassing Editing Mistakes on Jalopnik in the last 24 hours?

You are right to be confused. That statement makes zero sense.

1st Gear: “The Lyriq has been an exercise in frustration for seemingly everyone: or GM, has been trying to push them out in spite of a variety of issues, from shoddy plastic on the liftgate to glitchy infotainment and instrument panel software, and for customers, for the reasons described.”

Yep, it would have been fine, if not better, if they just called it the Mach-E and didn’t bother pissing off mustang fans. No one is buying that thing because it’s called a Mustang, so there was no point in slapping that name on it.

Never was a fan of the MK8 GTI. I always thought the MK7 looked a lot cleaner.

That 2nd image is brutal. It looks like an angry pig, or maybe the generic Japanese soldier from those viciously racist WWII propaganda posters.

The dedicated BMW M model

Not so much a redesign as a misappropriation of an existing nameplate - Mustang Mach-E.

Maybe more of a reflection than a prediction, we were already well into our obsession by 1963.

I believe you have that backwards. They used trailer lights on CJs. AMC was the king of repurposing. My CJ has a GM transmission and steering column, Ford brakes, ignition and alternator.

This is going to sound weird, but I’d like to think the gen1 XC60 somewhat previewed everyone’s race toward developing those ‘frosted’ style LED taillight signatures when it came out in 2008:

The Jeep CJ7/YJ/ TJ tail lights. I believe these were also used on some Chevy pickups as well. They are a masterpiece in minimalism and their design was so useful and inexpensive that they persist even today for trailers and other commercial applications. They are perfection in form and function.

Fishing for some of that lost Torch mojo, I see.
