“But if I was someone buying a new pickup, I’d be pissed about missing this module.”

No, no you wouldn’t. Especially if you’ve had to deal with those AFM lifter failures. It’s a parlor trick to meet those CAFE standards and that’s it. I’ve known people to get better MPG we disabled the AFM.

1st: They haven’t said so, but I would think they could build them as they normally would, just omitting the AFM module/board/whatever and put them in later as a dealership service. I don’t know what they offer currently but when I got my ‘16, the first two regular maintenance (oil change, etc.) was included from GM,

1st gear. Hopefully the continuing growth of electrification will mean the end of these increasingly complex measures to eke out the last fractions of a % of fuel economy. Move to smaller, lighter gas engines with electric assist for more dramatic fuel economy improvements.

This is actually a godsend. Ill take a non- active fuel management 5.3 please. Wont have to replace a cam and lifters that way.

1st gear: I would think that selling a vehicle with a different state of emissions/efficiency from how it was EPA certified would be illegal. Is this a case of easier to ask forgiveness than permission? Or did GM already certify these without the missing module?

1st: Why did we bail these tools out again?

If you’re referring to Foxconn’s so-called operation in Wisconsin (Racine area), it’s a multi-billion-dollar taxpayer ripoff that has produced essentially zero jobs and will likely lose out to Mexico in the Apple Car Sweepstakes.

I wonder, will these trucks permanently lack that fuel control module, or will GM retrofit them?

Foxconn Technology Group will decide between Wisconsin and Mexico for the site of its first electric-car plant”

2nd gear:

I don’t think I met a single pickup truck driver who was that concerned about fuel economy; otherwise they wouldn’t own a truck.

Hi, I’m tired. Tired of this mailed-in Neutral from y’all. Is it that hard to come up with something new/original? This used to be the most entertaining section to talk about.

Our resident bicycle lover is a bit harsh on The General today — most notably failing to mention that every one of those pickups will have a buyer in short order, so they are building to meet demand, and ask most buyers if they want their truck with 1 MPG less today, vs. a new truck later -- maybe much later -- with 1

1st:

GM told Reuters it’s not worried about meeting CAFE for 2021, but if I was someone buying a new pickup, I’d be pissed about missing this module.

1st; I can see this as an issue for commercial fleet buyers whose operating-cost numbers are figured to the penny but not so much for the typical retail pickup customer.

I think Toyota is just waiting to see if their solid state battery tech becomes everything they hope for, until them they might drag their feet on evs

I am building an elevated planter on my back porch because I will do anything — anything — to see something grow and flourish as Spring rolls in. Any tips are welcome!

First Gear: I suspect there is a whole subset of buyers out there that figure this is just another way to own the Libs. “Don’t need no power-sapping fuel controller! That extra gallon of gas burned is worth fifteen extra HP I can feel it!”

1st gear: Are they going to be able to retrofit it later?
