Will always upvote a Herb Tarlek ref. It’s the fastest way to my heart.
I still don’t understand the praise for You Were Never Really Here. Was excited to finally have a chance to see it a couple of weeks ago after all of the hoopla, and thought it was the biggest pile of nothing I’d seen in forever. A mumblecore revenge flick.
I don’t know if “Paddington 2" was the best movie of the year...but I probably liked it the best of the movies I did see this year.
Counterpoint: Black Panther was mediocre, and Infinity War wasn’t even really a movie.
After reading the header, was disappointed to find that this review wasn’t written by Forrest Macneil.
Rec’d for both the observation and the user handle.
To be fair, $660m is a very, very large amount of money for a movie to make. It’s true. And it clearly indicates that there is an interest in the characters. But in relation to the budget, from production through marketing, it should have made a lot more. It’s kind of a shame that a movie that made $600m+ would be…
I honestly can’t remember much about The Hobbit films, other than I didn’t enjoy them. I dutifully went to each one, hoping for the best (especially the first time around) but they were tiresome, uninspired, and ugly.
We took our niece to see “Ralph Wrecks the Internet”. I’m normally not a hand-wringer, but the tone of indoctrinating children into the world of corporate synergy actually upset me. It’s been a while since I saw a movie that I thought may actually be EVIL, but I think this one may qualify.
As someone who was introduced to Peter Jackson via Bad Taste, it sure has been a weird ride, watching his career unfold. Meet the Feebles made me feel a bit, ill, but I loved Dead Alive so much, I rented a second VCR at the time so I could dub a copy that I’d rented, and watched it until it was basically unwatchable.
This was a terrific piece, and it made me terribly sad, because I am such a huge fan of Chris Elliott and Reznick and the old Letterman show, and I LOVED “Cabin Boy” when it came out. I missed the theatrical run, but rented it as soon as it hit VHS, and have loved it ever since. Chris Elliott being sad is one of the…
It worked for Tales from the Darkside...and Monsters...and Freddy’s Nightmares...
How did they afford David Liebe Hart?
Awesome! As a fan of the comics, I liked the first season, but didn’t love it. Season 2 hooked me, and I absolutely loved the third season. It’s a very different take on the characters and storylines, but I enjoy it as its own thing, and adore the cast.
Same. Kingdom is one of my favorite things ever. We used to have “Kingdom” parties, where we worked through the show a couple of episodes each week. It was great fun. What a show.
Dracula Untold is deathly dull, i couldn’t even finish it. But I’m one of the very few folks who really enjoyed Cruise’s Mummy movie. I thought it was a lot of dumb fun, I really dug it. I may or may not have been very high when I watched it.
I don’t know who any of these people are and also I hate the world I live in.
When I try to hear the voice of Werner Herzog in my head, I usually end up with Paul F Tompkins impersonating Werner Herzog. I’m still ok with this.
I realize that the crows in the original are...problematic. But goddamn, I love that song. It’s so great. Used to be in a band that covered it, up until we discovered that this also was...problematic.
