Brian’s playing (and his arrangements played by Carole Kaye) was so out there at that time, it’s really tremendous. Some of that stuff where it’s played with a pick, way up the neck, all verbed out, it doesn’t even sound like bass, it’s really terrifically inventive. Go figure.

After a lifetime of loving Chris Elliott’s singularly odd comedy style, it’s disarmingly odd to see him acting like a normal husband and dad. I was caught off guard by how normal this is.

I appreciate jazz drumming as its own thing, but with rock, I’d take Phil Rudd over all of the jazz drummers in the world. For instance, I can’t stand Mitch Mitchell. Ugh.

I’m not a Beatles fan. I am a bass player. Even as a non-fan, I give Paul a lot of credit for pioneering bass as a counter-melody instrument in pop/rock music. I think he did some very solid playing too, and is probably underappreciated for his bass skills in relation to the praise that he gets for songwriting, etc.

Was 99% sure that was Richard Karn until I read the headline.

Hmm. I like Last Splash just fine, but “Pod” is a classic. I’d pay money to see Kim play with Britt Walford.

Whoa, shit, I had no idea this existed, and I haven’t bought an X-Men comic in years, but I will be heading to the comic shop this weekend to pick this up. This looks great!

Although she’s now seen the trailer several times, my wife refuses to believe that this is an actual movie that was produced and released.

Baby Driver is a masterclass in film editing, but more importantly, it’s just a lot of fun.

I enjoyed John Wick 2 quite a bit, but if I only had room for one ultra-stylized action flick on my list, it’d be Atomic Blonde. The stairwell fight alone trumps any of JW2's set pieces, and I adored the soundtrack as well. Still, Baby Driver was probably the most fun I had at a theater this year. I’m a simple man.

Heist movie chockablock with mega-babes. This would have to be pretty dire for me to not enjoy it.
