It's cool to like "Unbreakable". All I remember is walking out of the theater, and laughing with my friends about how shitty it was. Were we wrong? I refuse to find out.

Agreed. They have the air of a very competent band that has spent countless hours/days/years in bars. I know they had a big hit way back when, but they have that seasoned bar band vibe.

I dig your style.

Totally agreed. If that's the story you wanted, you're in luck, because I think that's exactly what you're getting.

I said the same in a response above, but King's Batman also left me cold to start. But I got caught up with the rest of the run last week, and it gets SO much better. Start with "I Am Suicide" and go from there, it steadily improves. The standalone Swamp Thing story is a heartbreaker.

His Batman run started off terribly. I am Gotham was a nonstarter, the monster men crossover stuff, etc. But last week I got caught up on the last, uh, year and a half's worth of Batman books, and I have to say, it gets SO much better. I Am Suicide starts to move the needle, I Am Bane builds on it, and it continues to

OH Christy, Odyssey is so terrible that it absolutely MUST be read to be believed.

He is the worst.

Man, it really was something to watch that descent into total madness. Cerebus, in floppy form, is an essential read, if just for that.

Gerhard is amazing.

Well that's the most disappointing shit I've heard in quite some time. Sigh.

Awesome.

I often like to reflect on Steranko's story about bitch-slapping Bob Kane. Piss on that turd.

And that's the truth, really. I went through a major anti-Stan period in my life, as a staunch Kirby supporter. But the truth of what went down is probably somewhere in the middle. And it's hard to hate the guy.

When I was a young man, we didn't have all of these "memes". We had Mr.T and/or Chewbacca Ate My Balls, and that's it! And we liked it! LOVED IT!

How this went 17 hours without an upvote is mind-boggling. Apparently most AVClubbers have never actually been in a gigging band.

We have a big New Years Eve party every year, and one year, after most folks had gone home or to bed (they can crash at our place and we make breakfast the next morning) there was a Magic's Greatest Secrets Revealed marathon. My best friend and I were respectively super drunk and stoned, and it was just MESMERIZING.

I love this show. Many of the magicians are super cheesy, and Alyson Hannigan is a terrible host, but I can't stop watching.

Well I'll be damned.
