When I was in my early twenties the bank accidentally deposited an additional $750 into my bank account. I assumed that they would eventually figure it out, so I let it sit in my account for about 9 months until I eventually broke down and spent it. Read more

I have this one, and my cats get bored super quickly with it. The speeds aren’t random or fast enough.

I have the United card and this has not been the case for me. When I purchase the ticket with my United card I get priority boarding and free checked bags, but there have been two recent cases where I did not get priority boarding: Read more

I wish I could be the last person on the plane and still have space for my carry-ons. I refuse to check a bag, so I board early specifically so that I have room for my luggage.  If there were guaranteed space you can bet I would be the very last person to board that metal tube.

Thanks for the tip, though it doesn’t quite go far enough for me. My partner and I have a lot of activities that are scheduled super far in advance, and so we created a new shared gmail account so that we can have a shared calendar. Also, we use the joint email on our Apple notes app to keep a shared and live updating Read more

I guess I took a shortcut. I had about $25k in credit card debt. I got a new job in a different city, so I sold my house and moved into an apartment. Used the equity in to pay off my credit cards and my car. It would have been nice to use it to invest or something, but it was a huge relief to get that burden off my Read more

Great advice. I just did the opposite of this. Got a 22% salary increase, so I went and bought a fancy car. My take-home pay is still the same, after factoring in my car payment, gas, and insurance. But my 401k contribution went up by a little bit because I kept the same contribution percentage.   Read more

I can’t stand country music, but a good friend of mine (Curtis Braly) moved to Nashville a couple years ago to find out if country music is ready for a singer. It takes a while to break into any music category, but he has already opened for Dolly Parton once.

I think I started to write a cover letter one tone, but then gave up on it. Instead, I make sure that my LinkedIn is always up to date, and I have as many relevant connections as I can get. Read more

You beat me to it.  I have had this same shower caddy for 3 years, and t still looks brand new.  I even moved apartments, so I had to uninstall and reinstall it.  If I had to do it over again I would undoubtedly get this caddy.

I live in Dallas, and these things are all over the place here too. I ride the metro to work, but the train station is just over a mile from my office. So I bought a Swagtron scooter to go the last mile. It is a lot of fun to ride, it folds up nicely to fit in my seat or under my desk, and goes 18 mph. It also looks Read more

Man, I catch myself giving Shift responses this all the time. It’s truly my way of trying to relate, though I bet it really comes off as trying to one-up somebody.  I’ll try to start incorporating Support responses instead.   My fear though it that it will come off as examining and questioning intentions and Read more

I work in an environment where I never see people take lunch breaks. But everyone has high-walled cubicles or offices. You bet I take an entire hour lunch break, and I watch a show on my iPad with big noise-cancelling headphones on, hoping that people leave me alone. It doesn’t work. Read more

My director basically told me that the only way to get a real raise (anything other than the standard ~2% B.S.) at our company was to look outside our company.  So I did.  I got a job offer somewhere else, presented it to him, and for a >20% raise.  Sucks that I had to do it, but it did the trick.

I can relate. I lost my sense of smell at the age of 26. Seven years later, and I still enjoy the taste of food; however, I definitely tend to gravitate towards much stronger flavors. Especially spicy. The spicier the better.
