thats right, IF you are using a cross-walk or intersection or neither of those exist within (i think 50 meters).
pedestrians still have responsibilities and that’s namely to not jump infront of moving cars.

Theoretically, there would be a slight time advantage, but the problem with swerving is that it screws with pedestrians’ expectations and confuses their ability to react. A car that does not deviate from its path is much more predictable and thus easier to avoid.
