I really truly hate this trend. You’re basically retconning the vernacular. Both speaker and listener were obvious to some “nefarious” origins. So Phil shouts to an old friend, “Hey June, long time no see!” and it’s the start of a warm friendly exchange.

Are we talking about people who disliked it for “current year” reasons, or for those who, like me, just found it kind of boring and tonally all over the map.

I’m not sure how old you are. I knew guys who would do similar disgusting things when they were teens and 20-ish. Kind of like that guy Puck on Real World. They at least had the excuse of under-developed brains. The ones I still am sort of friends with long ago outgrew that crap. Or at least the most tasteless

seriously - that dude is impeccable. I’m entirely certain it extends beyond his natty attire and brilliant little ‘stache.

“Adoption is a thrilling truth I’ll pursue with all my might.”

I bet it didn’t seem quite so blatant in the San Francisco area in the 70's.

“But it’s a whole educational problem, you can clearly see on first day of class how 2-5 women enroll to a tech, mainly because ‘math’ is for men, and how from the start are pushed away from the hard sciences. Is a systematical problem.”

“Reasons to build a new library”| “Reasons not to build a new library”

Christian Bale in full method mode. Channeling 1980's “Nam Vet” persona.

The original movie, while considered a classic, is too much a product of its time - a time when it was totally ok to have nightmare-inducing kids’ movies. It’s a kick to watch it as an adult, but I’m old enough to have seen it in the theater as a young kid, and yeah, it was terrifying. I think the blueberry girl is

PFT! Though I’m still unclear about whether he’s actually an actor - he’s a genius-level improviser.

You mean you don’t love “Spring Break” featuring James Franco going “SPRRRIIIIIIIING BREEEEAAAAAAAK” over and over for 100 minutes?

In full agreement. Initially it sucks you in with all its period detail and “boy those were crazy times”. Then you’re like “wait, there’s nothing really compelling going on here. Why am I watching this? I need a shower.”

Specious means (more or less) “sounds reasonable on its face, but falls apart under scrutiny”. It only takes a smidge of critical reading of the weak comparisons and strange assumptions for it crumble.

not all men rape, but all men benefit from the state of fear instilled in women by rape.

It’s and out-and-out hoot of game, especially in coop.

Yup. The movie had a serious tone problem and fails to be compelling, despite its “outrageous” twists and turns. Can’t knock the performances though.

never mind

A woman walked for a day in Manhattan and was harrassed (to varying degrees) about 100 times. She probably crossed paths with thousands of men who said nothing. ANd the problem is “what’s wrong with men?” not “what’s wrong with men who do this. The same thing happens over and over and over.

This was perplexing. And there were certainly no movement for empathy for Elliot. I mean, maybe some folks might have been like “I can relate to loneliness, rejection, and bitterness, but I wouldn’t go on a shooting rampage about it.”
