I believe prisons should reduce crime. (I suspect and hope you do too. If you don't actually believe they should, please fire yourself into space and go live on some other planet.) What we disagree on is the method.

Goal: Convince people that while in prison, they are not productive members of society.

"We don't want them getting too comfortable, feeling like they're productive members of society..."

Trans sex workers women are barely mentioned - almost as an afterthought. The fact remains, the articles within are not about sex workers or trans women or trans women sex workers.

I'm not speaking for all feminists here, just for this one.

Fair enough. However, I sometimes use Jezebel (and I imagine others) as an aggregation of things I would be interested in, leading me to other articles or blog posts about a subject, and don't require the pieces to have original content in them.

It's not a story about sex workers at all. That's the incredible shitty thing.

I know you didn't say ANY trans people/sex workers. I specifically brought up other people who might also feel caught up in the general dehumanization that this shitty choice made - and how their voices might be fucking relevant, since I don't exactly have the capacity to fly to Jakarta and find the specific people

The scientists who give a shit and work on studying and reducing transmission and all that other shit - are not the fucking dipshits who chose the magazine cover. How you've made criticism of a shitty exploitative dehumanizing choice by Science magazine into criticism of scientists who are actually working in this

Nope nope nope. So much fucking nope.

Yes, because I'm sure that trans people and sex workers commenting on this that feel that their identities and professions are being dehumanized by this have nothing relevant to say on the subject.

There's an appropriate time and place for sexualization. This was not the time nor the place.

Sex workers are selling a service. They are not selling their dehumanization.

Really? You don't think a culture that dehumanizes trans people and sex workers both (and btw, cutting off their heads in a totally obvious male gazey shot is dehumanizing) contributes to the high rates of violence? Ok then.

Article in fact is not about sex workers at all. The picture was pure fucking clickbait.

You may want to get yourself to the ER to get that stick removed from your ass.

Just checked your post history. You're an asshole, and you're probably lying. Kat's free to take you at your word that you've got a professional history that includes seeing this type of event in action, but I'm under no obligation to do so.

Any chance of more information about how the libel case went down? How exactly did they lose a case printing totally true stuff? Was their defense just that shoddy? Or did they actually jump the gun and print shit that wasn't true, but happened to be close to the truth? Was their proof seized by authorities?

A friend of mine once opined "If we're going to continue, as a society, to act as if prison rape is an acceptable thing to happen to prisoners we despise (and fail to do anything to curtail), why don't we just be honest about it and sentence them to rape?"

They allow the proposing party to drag the Overton Window over to their side. The Republicans constantly raving against the evils of Obamacare has made its presence known in polls, which show high levels of support for each of the major ACA provisions, but low levels of support for the actual ACA.
