That's because those people are idiots, not because the act of pulling out a bag is difficult or time consuming. 

From the way this crash was described, it is no different to if an older car with its “dumb” cruise control engaged ran a red light at speed. Of course it was the driver’s fault for not operating the car correctly. Just because it was a more advanced system doesn’t mean that the operator is blameless.
