The whole idea that racism = slavery and everything is fine now really pisses me off.

Hey, I’m the director of the international association of white men and I just greenlighted another slave movie while ignoring the rights of all the non-white male earth dwellers. We want you to know we’re one united front and no articles on Gawker will change our position on world domination.

Would watch the shit out of an Eartha Kitt biopic.

Over Christmas, my parents spent a good 20 minutes volunteering their ideas about why BLM is an illegitimate civil rights movement. My mom brings up Trayvon Martin. I was slack jawed. “He was an unarmed child.

Alternate theory:

It’s almost as if you can’t undo centuries of oppression - physical, political, social, financial - in a couple of decades! Crazy.

Yes! Both Thomas-Alexandre Dumas and his son Alexandre Dumas had extremely interesting lives. Those would be awesome period pieces and I’d be the first in line for tickets!

Totally.

Maybe one problem is that since these movies are set in a time period that was “a long, long time ago” so people find a way to compartmentalize it and make pretty unhelpful comparisons between “then” and “now.”

The only high school show that I can think of with prominent minority cast members is Pretty Little Liars. The new Recovery Road also seems to have a diverse cast but who knows if the show will last.

Black and Latino high school students only exist to challenge brand new white teachers and then grow to love them while, in the end, teaching the teacher the most meaningful lessons of all.

It’s a great way to pat ourselves on the backs. “We don’t own people anymore! Isn’t that great? All our problems are solved.”

Oh my god the seamstress-to-nightclub singer would be amazing.

See, look at their clothes, this happened in the olden times. Now we have Obama !

But I also want to watch movies about black debutante balls and the Great Migration and a coming-of-age movie about a black teenager in Houston who loves to skateboard and gets into trouble with her Desi best friend. Those films are surely out there waiting to be made. I guarantee that somewhere there sits a great

Wouldn’t it be crazy to have a mainstream, blockbuster with all black cast etc. just a regular old movie.

They do, but only to terrible schools where they are about to drop out until some middle-age white man having a mid-life crisis really connects with them.

Vulture did about high school shows. Gossip girl, The OC, etc and not a single one of those high schools shows are about black kids. Or any kids of color. And I can’t think of a single black or POC high school show. Do white people think that black kids don’t go to high school?

But you also occasionally get sports movies or music industry movies! Isn’t that enough?
