And “Believe me”.

She kept a file marked “letters from that man” - which I have to this day. There’s a letter from him proposing they get back together again - because, he points out, he has been threatened with the loss of his job because his employers have found out the woman with whom he is living is not his wife. He makes it clear

That should be his campaign slogan, along the lines of “No child left behind” - “Trump: no bar can be set too low”

Even if they were evidence of that, how would it be morally different from men assaulting men in men’s restrooms? Which clearly does happen - there are a number of examples amusingly involving Republican lawmakers cited elsewhere on this thread.

It may be that rather than make any appropriate provision or allow people to go with how they identify, they’re just going to say, OK, anyone can use any restroom at the same time as anyone else.

Apparently yes.

Yes, Texan politicians are such notorious fans of women’s rights!

I was so envious of curly hair when I was younger. Mine was always straight, and I hate the smell of hairdressers’ shops and never wanted to mess around with chemicals to get it curly.

It happened to my grandmother, in about 1934. She and my dad had been abandoned by my grandfather about 6 years earlier. Since he’d been gone he’d run up debts, which she only found out about when the bailiffs turned up to take her furniture.

Depends where you were. In England you’d probably have a jointure, settled on you for life, but the children would inherit the bulk of the fortune... if there was one. In France and Italy it was different.

There was something similar believed of women in early modern Italy. There were a lot of young widows, because merchants tended to marry later in life but pick young women straight from the convent, aged 15 or 16. A lot of women died in childbirth and the widowers tended to marry again, still from the same age-group.

Yeah. My grandmother had her furniture seized, in about 1934, because although my grandfather had abandoned her and my father, and was actually living on the other side of the country, he had run up debts.

Well, she’s an excellent subject in other respects - young and healthy - so physically able to withstand the terrible toll of the operation. I don’t know why she was considered psychologically suitable - but then, neither do you.

Yeah... it’s like “If a woman is alone in the forest and says or does something, but there’s nobody to see/hear her, is she still wrong?”

This.

I had quite a few conversations with people who thought that Steve McQueen was “playing the race card” with 12 Years A Slave. Seriously.

Put it another way - did you consent? Did you clearly and unequivocably consent? Looks like a no to me.

You are kidding me.

“Man does as he is, when he can do his will.” (Old Anglo-Saxon proverb).

Quick, let’s all start a rumour that Muslims are also horrified by luxury chocolates, and anyone wanting to distress and damage Muslims should send the most expensive chocolate assortments to their local Mosque asap.
