Because how else are we supposed to support these writers. There is pretty much no good replacement for Kotaku and I have followed some of those writers for basically a decade now. I’ll support the writers if they decide to walk out and leave and go elsewhere, but I can’t abandon the ones who are still here.

io9 got fucked hard by the addition of the Onion and thereby AV club to the GMG family. I love the AV club, but man its clear that upper management did not feel like io9 needed to exist separately. It was probably an early warning of things to come.

Heather, Gita, and Cecilia have been fighting the good fight as well. Also Tim Rogers has been an amazing addition, and giving him free latitude to do whatever the fuck he wants with those video essays (like the KH one) is one of the best editorial decisions a website can make.
