When he read the name of the book it showed up on my cc as 'Ocean at the End of the Lane', but it was captioned so that may not be the exact title/I may have read it wrong.

(I posted this in the io9 Tips section, but I just realized that some folks here might be interested)

Finally, a contest I have a chance to win.

Why not make it a double-feature and watch Jack Palance and Barry Morse (among many other recognizable faces) in that other Canadian classic from around the same time 'The Shape of Things to Come'.

She occasionally puts in an appearance on that Sunday morning CNN show with the-name-I-have-just-forgotten hosted by Howard Kurtz.

Not really relevant but I always - until this article - pictured Steve Bissette's 'Commandosaurs' whenever I read about this version of JP4.

If anyone is interested in a show based on a slightly similar idea (though more 'Lost'/less Bay) check out 'El Barco', a Spanish tv series about the students and crew of a school ship who may be the last people left on Earth after a catastrophe caused by - if I remember correctly - a CERN type organization.

On the subject of marriages - if it considered news - did not MSNBC anchor Thomas Roberts get married this weekend (possibly in New York)?

Which, when it came out, sounded similar (to me) in set-up to Kit Pedler and Gerry Davis' 'The Plastic Eaters' (both their novel and the first episode of the early seventies BBC series 'Doomwatch').

Yes. The next Doctor will be Hermione Norris (Spooks, Kingdom, Wire in the Blood). At least in my universe.

You are not the only one - I also attended Catholic schools through college and was taught evolution as science fact. Though it was the seventies and the church seemed - from my current perspective - more open (liberal?).

Okay, the comments are not showing up for me, but I assume that someone has already brought up H. Beam Piper's 'Paratime Police' series of stories. I would love for this series to be an adaptation (which should be easy* as some or all of the stories are in the public domain now), though I realize chances are fair

If knowing you will like - no, love - a show before you get to see it counts, then 'Blakes 7'.

Stupid question* - does the shark cage also help both in repelling jellyfish (possibly by cutting a path through them?) and making it easier to swim by countering currents? I only ask because I thought (probably incorrectly) that someone has made the swim, though she used a cage, and was curious why using the cage

Was not the Sunday episode of 'Continuum' the season finale? I thought the first series was only scheduled for ten episodes.

Also, since we are sort of on the subject, could folks* please stop using any version of "... off the reservation"?

Also - because I stupidly and rudely forgot to type this - thank you very much for the link to the video. I had no idea it existed/this is so cool/I am such a geek.

If anyone is interested in a little more information on 'Starwatch'/'Starguard' here are a couple of links (if I am copying them correctly) http://www.sfx.co.uk/1997/06/25/sfx-issue-26/ and the Starguard section on Martin Bowers site http://www.martinbowersmodelworld.com/ .

I have done something vaguely similar to this for years - basically I make ice cubes out of the cheapest (usually around 98 cents) bottled lemon juice, then run three or four of the cubes through the disposal every few days. My thinking was that breaking up the ice cubes would clean the blades and the lemon juice
