I suspect this a regional assumption. In my neck of the woods, trucks are go-to long haul vehicles (often because the destination is not paved).

Not a terrible choice. Doesn’t have the really expensive stuff from a type R or an XJ, some component sharing with Lincoln LSs.
Not strictly true. My XJR came with the factory open diff, and the only drop in LSD is helical (Quaife). Definitely helps from a stop on icey conditions-which I see frequently in Calgary. Haven’t been stuck since I had it installed.
I am conflicted with that. On one hand, a 47k Silverado is a huge profit for the manufacturer; on the other hand, a 47k Silverado will depreciate more slowly and be easier and cheaper to repair and maintain than any 47k luxury car.
Reasonable arguments! But there are some reasons I can think of:
That’s...the author’s point? Atlanta, for example, gets zero funding from the state, unlike every other mass transit authority in the country. This lack of investment means cars are and have been a near necessity for travelling greater Atlanta, AND it means there has been very little incentive to build up density in…
I mean, you can sell a Nissan Micra with all of that for 12k Canadian brand new (seriously, 2019MY listed on autotrader). Maybe not the backup camera? Expectations for luxury and demand for vehicle size and especially height set a lot of these prices; I think there is a not insignificant cultural component in the…
A bit of googling reveals a fast charger at the Ramada in Brooks; Lethbridge, and more have them too. Moosejaw and Shaunavan too. And there’s a corridor of them between the major cities.
I love the Golf R idea, but the writer should keep in mind that almost any other vehicle will have a centre rear seat. This may allow the kid way more room (because they are between the front seats). The main disadvantage is that they can still kick your seat. Honestly though, almost anything with AWD is so much…
You haven’t tried to fit a carseat in the back of a Mini coupe, I take it.
Honda Fits are front wheel drive only, unfortunately.
And why is it a bicycle?
A modern pipeline has those, sure. If they have been around for 40 years, they’ll have pressure transmitters, remote operated valves, and receipt meters that may not even be live recording.
Fun, pretty, middle range price, good AC?
Wait, they are ditching the clickwheel for a...touchpad? They really are following the IPod cycle.
I’m more shocked it’s being sold. Usually when something that intensive has been done to an already very expensive car, it is kept around a long time. That looks like an 300SL that you could actually drive regularly!
XJR owner here. The 4.2L supercharged V8 isn’t too bad for repairs; the cooling system reservoirs get brittle and need replacement, but the engine is reliable. I’ve heard worse things about the newer V6 supercharged engine (bad timing chain tensioner design).
I don’t think so. It’s aimed at guys like my teammate, who bought a JDM Miata and a Nissan Stagea. The kei cars are around, but they are dwarfed by the number of full sized JDM vehicles; at least half of the JDM vehicles I see out there are models that were sold in Canada as new.
Good god, what? Sounds like a recipe for a lawsuit, that’s bananas.
It will interesting to see how it does on the dreaded small overlap test from IIHS, but it is encouraging to see Tesla nailed this.
