Well, I think idiotic is hyperbole. MPG is bad for shielding this exact kind of thing-11 and 15, well, those are really close! 15 and 22? Not a big difference, both are pretty small numbers.

By all rights, they should be using decimals at that range. But the EPA did revise the old tested numbers on all cars down, so the old numbers aren't as irrelevant as you'd think; I'd trust them far more than, say, any European mileage numbers ever.

I'd say the economy improvements are nothing short of amazing:
