Er, those gas turbines are ~40% thermally efficient in simple cycle. That’s not as high as the best diesels, I’ll admit, but that’s pretty amazing-and their power density and operational lifespan kick the crap out of piston engines.

I drove one too, and have very different and much fonder memories. I loved the smooth engine, never found the torque steer to be an issue, and really liked the ride and handling. The switchgear would be unacceptable today, but it was darn good for the era. Perhaps not Mercedes level, but I don’t know early 90s…
Makes perfect sense. At that range, you could just go home and eat there.
Great write up Stef! Easy to forget how high Mexico city is.
Christ, I want cake now, and I had fresh baked chocolate banana bread an hour ago.
Ditto for lifted trucks, and lowriders on hydraulics, and most ratrods.
Don't forget the recirculating ball steering!
Oh god...so much lift for so little tire...giant rims with skinny offroad tires...and a big lift on a dually? Ugh. Interesting that it looks like it was purely a body lift though.
Happened very accidently to a Canadian couple in Hawaii a little while ago, huge fight with their insurers over the massive medical bills.
They don't make you present ultrasounds or anything.
I'm still just guessing myself-your original assumptions could be right :-)
Reliable or simple?
Well, and depending on the materials and inspection scheme, it may have been awful trying to get the right weld conditions at site and NDE tools setup. I mean, I’d imagine this is machine welded, so you need the tools to move either that welder or the vessel. Must be cool.
We go to school for YEARS to get to do that math :-)
I really doubt it is-mills can’t make stuff like that seamless. But it may still have made more sense to assembly off site for quality control
Not being able to get comfortable is brutal-I find that happens to me in Ford's manual passenger seats. What is it that you don't like about the centre stacks?
Where did you find that video?!
Well, mounting this for high speed video will make as much sense as doing the same with a Canon 7d or something. It's not an action camera. As for high speed shooting-aren't most big dSLRs used in sports photography CMOS as well?
There were words as well!
