Thanks for the trip down memory lane: I remember seeing that series of pictures when I was little and being very impressed/awed/creeped.

I didn’t buy it. One would sense a person standing so close. Even if he was holding his breath, he was near enough for her to feel his body heat.
Billy Connolly would’ve been perfect as Shadwell. And a number of other aging Scottish actors would have done well. McKean’s inconsistent and awful accent made it impossible for me to enjoy the character, whom I found entertaining in the book.
Michael McKean’s accent was distractingly terrible.
