S7 is a little better than S6, IMO, though it’s not a full return to S1-4 form. S8 and S9 so far have been dogshit. I kind of wish I stopped at the end of S7, if not earlier.

The Jimmy, Kim, and Chuck stuff are as good as Breaking Bad. The Mike, Gus, and Nacho stuff, while often very fun and very good, are not Breaking Bad-level.
I came here to comment the exact same thing: this sounds like Legion, but I’m hoping it’s not as self-indulgent and boring as S2 of Legion. That show is the epitome of “style over substance,” and I found S2 a huge chore to get through.
I think I’m going to stick with Shameless til the bitter end, but if I quit anytime soon, this will be the episode that started it. Just so bad.
I thought Season 1 was just okay, but LOVED season 2.
I thought this was pretty good. I still think Dennis is pretty important to the show - the show could probably get by without Frank (I think S1 is still really good), or MAYBE without Mac, but IMO Charlie, Dee, and Dennis are all absolutely essential. This episode worked because they didn’t try to ignore that Dennis…
Sometimes the wordplay on this show falls a little flat for me - I didn’t think the “bee stuck in my throat” joke was that funny, for some reason - but the “Al Gore rhythm” one made me laugh a lot. It’s great because of how long it takes to set up - Titus has to begin by explaining that Al Gore created the internet.
I went to a screening of this earlier this week and fucking loved it. It’s really bizarre and experimental, but not in a remotely off-putting way (for me, at least). I went in kind of expecting something like an Olivier Assayas movie (like Clouds of Sils Maria or Personal Shopper, both of which I found generally…
Yup, it would’ve been nice if Flaca had some private reflection. Actually, when I saw the S5 finale, the Flaca-Maritza separation was what I was most hoping would pay off in S6. But that was also when I figured Diane Guerrero would still be on the show and that they’d have an emotional reunion towards the end of the…
Okay, I’m gonna drop a lot of thoughts here:
I can’t believe how good this was. It’s like the writers are never actually trying to be good anymore, but they decided to try this one time. Both Noah and Cole were actually well-written.
I wish they did that, because I’m really missing Boo, Maritza, Soso, Sophia, etc. I’m sure a lot of those characters are missing because of actors’ schedules, but I miss them, and wish there was an easier way for them to return.
I’m a S5 defender, but I didn’t like this episode very much. To be honest, the Suzanne stuff just got on my nerves (especially when it was supposed to be ‘funny’), and Piper was so god damn annoying asking everyone about Alex. I don’t know why, but she bothered me even more than usual with the Alex fixation.
Honestly, it felt on the nose in the book to me, too (I just read it a couple months ago). There are so few major characters and there’s such a heavy sense of foreboding that there’s only so many people it could be.
I get why she doesn’t fight back more, but I had a similar reaction when I was reading the book. At times Adora is so utterly loathsome that I sometimes I got annoyed at Camille repeatedly backing down.
Her grin as Cherry yelled at her for flirting was both adorable and hot.
“ensuring that the stories of Blanca, Damon, Angel, and the rest of the show’s cast won’t end after a single year.”
Super excited for this. I know the hype train seems to have moved on a little from OITNB, but I actually really liked S5 and how it had an actual unifying plot. (Season rankings for me are probably 4 > 1 > 2 > 5 > 3.) This is one of my favorite shows.
I read the novel a few months ago to prepare for this and thought it was just okay (I loved Gone Girl, so I was a little disappointed). But I loved this - the mood comes across so much more powerfully, and Amy Adams makes Camille way more interesting (same goes for Chris Messina). There’s something bizarrely…
The whole first half of this episode, I felt like I was watching something horrible, but I was super entertained. I guess that’s reason enough to keep watching this show - I wasn’t even frustrated by the Noah stuff this week, I was just cackling at how dumb it was. The name “Compton Academy” alone makes me cringe.
